Why is this? Your dishwasher comes with a drain hose with a particular diameter. If it is installed further from your sink then you will need a way to extend the hose enough to reach the plumbing. The issue is that in our experience most installations are not done correctly.

While they can point to an air gap, they cannot always reveal if it is getting worse over time and how much eccentricity is actually present.
Dishwashers require the drain hose to be connected to either an air gap or for the drain hose to have a high loop. These features are responsible for preventing the wastewater from the dishwasher from returning to the dishwasher.
