Millennials drink a wide variety of beverages, favoring craft beer, wine, and premium spirits, along with creative cocktails, hard seltzers, and ready-to-drink (RTD) options, valuing quality, experience, and variety over just habit, often at home or during social events like dining out, though they also show interest in healthier, lower-alcohol, or non-alcoholic choices.
Always looking for the latest and greatest, Millennials seek out lesser known craft beers and constantly look to discover new styles and breweries. In the same FONA report, it states that Millennials drink more varieties of spirits, like vodka, rum, tequila, and whiskey, than any other generation.
Some people who want to reduce but not eliminate alcohol follow what's called the “1-2-3” rule for drinks: No more than one drink per hour. No more than two drinks per occasion. No more than three drinks per day.
Gen Z And The Sober Curious Movement
One study found that 34% of people in the Gen Z age group are making an effort to drink less, while 45% say they've never had an alcoholic drink in their lives. In contrast, only 36% of the millennial generation admit to never experimenting with alcohol.
