Sikhs are obligated to treat women as equals, and gender discrimination in Sikh society has no religious basis. However, gender equality has been difficult to achieve in practice due to heavy social, cultural, and caste-related pressure.
In Sikhism, a person has two genders - one the physical gender i.e. sex (male or female), and the other the spiritual gender (which is always female - regardless of a person's physical sex). 4 major transgressions: Hair removal – Hair cutting, trimming, removing, shaving, plucking, threading, dyeing, or any other alteration from any body part is strictly forbidden. Eating the meat of an animal slaughtered the Muslim way (Kutha meat). This is the absolute minimum required by all initiated Sikhs.

However, Sikhism welcomes those interested in learning about the religion. Thus, people might learn about Sikh faith and then even be initiated as Sikhs. Individuals from any background can choose to adopt the faith. Once someone is initiated as a Sikh, they must follow the Sikh path to the best of their ability.
Marrying people of other faiths is acceptable, they say, but conducting that marriage in a Sikh temple is not. Non-Sikhs can only be involved if they accept the Sikh faith and change their name to include Singh or Kaur, the council insists.
But actually Sikhs do get divorced sometimes, just like everyone else.
"In the Sikh tradition there is no prohibition of showing your hair. It's not that hair cannot be seen. It's an identity, as opposed to having to cover your hair." His flowing locks are so long he can wrap them up without a hair band or elastic.
All male Sikhs carry the surname Singh, while all females are named Kaur.
There is no dress code in the Golden Temple.
Verse 2:222 in the Quran implies that relations during menstruation are prohibited. But it does not mention forbidding prayers, however it is mentioned in the hadith which states that women should not pray during menstruation and that they don't have to make up for the missed prayers during this period.
Joura, this rule means that Sikh believers, women included, should refrain from “chopping, trimming, shaving, waxing or even tweezing their hair.” While there are no penalties as such, doing otherwise is “considered disrespectful to the religion,” says Mr. Joura.
For this reason by practitioners they are kept with the utmost respect. This includes regular maintenance of hair which includes but is not limited to combing at least twice daily, washing regularly and not allowing for public touching.
The SGPC has warned those who plan to get a tattoo of Sikh religious symbols or Gurbani verses on any part of their body. Akal Takht has already put a blanket ban on Sikh religious tattooing and pronounced an edict in June.
I am of the Sikh faith. Ever since the founding of the faith more than 500 years ago, Sikhs have used 'Allah' to refer to God as well as many other terms. The word 'Allah' appears repeatedly in their Holy Book. The religion is epitomised by the Mool Mantar that appears as the first verse in the Sikh Holy Book.
The first aspect is, forgiveness of sins. From a Sikh perspective, we believe that Christ can forgive sins because we believe that God and the Guru can forgive sins. We believe that saints of high spiritual level have this ability.
