Four American airmen, CIA-contracted pilots, died during the Bay of Pigs invasion when their B-26 bombers were shot down while providing air support, though officially no U.S. personnel were meant to be involved. The Cuban exile invasion force (Brigade 2506) suffered over 100 killed and 1,200 captured, while Cuban forces had 176 killed and hundreds wounded.

The Counterattack
