You can't truly "turn off" standard AirPods with a power button; they power down automatically when placed in their case and the lid is closed, disconnecting from your device to save battery. For AirPods Max, putting them in the Smart Case or holding the Noise Control button (and Digital Crown) for a few seconds achieves low power mode, while disconnecting them via your device's Bluetooth settings is another method.
Your AirPods automatically stop playing audio when you take them off, and resume playback when you put them back on. You can change this setting. Wear your AirPods, and make sure they're connected to your device.
Turn off listening modes
On Mac, choose Apple menu > System Settings, then choose your AirPods. For AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods Pro 3 paired with compatible devices,* enable the setting called Off Listening Mode, which allows you to turn off all listening mode technology. Under Listening Mode, select Off.
You can control your AirPods with a double tap at the top of the stem. For example, when you get an incoming call, double tap to answer. You can also set each of your AirPods to do one of the following with a double tap: Play and pause audio content.
AirPods don't have a power button, but placing them in the charging case disconnects and conserves their battery.
AirPods 3 controls
Play the next track: Double-press the stem. Play the previous track: Triple-press the stem. Answer a call: When you receive a call, press the stem. Activate Siri: Press and hold the stem, then ask questions, control apps, and more.
iCloud lock:
If the original owner has Find My iPhone enabled and the AirPods are linked to their iCloud account, they can be locked using the iCloud website or Find My app. This will prevent the AirPods from connecting to any other device.
Yes, your AirPods will lose battery power when not in the case. Your battery drainage will occur naturally as if the AirPods are still in usage but in low power mode. This is largely based on the fact that the AirPods enter a low power while the proximity sensor remains active.
Method 1: Using Physical Buttons
Locate the Power Button: Most wireless earbuds have a dedicated power button. This button is usually located on the side or the back of the earbuds. 2. Press and Hold: To turn off the earbuds, press and hold the power button for a few seconds.
Restart AirPods
AirPods or AirPods Pro: Put the AirPods in their case, then close the lid for a minimum of 10 seconds.
Just leave them sat on a table and they will power into low power mode eventually.
To turn the volume up or down, place your thumb on the stem of either AirPod, and use your index finger to swipe up or down on the force sensor.
Listen with a tap or a press
With just a tap or a press, pause and resume video playback, skip music tracks, activate Siri, and more—all without picking up another device.
