She was not born from a lump of clay (go figure!), but rather the result of an affair between Hippolyta and Zeus. In other words, she's not merely a gifted Amazon, she's a full-fledged demigod. And rather than “channeling” the gifts of Zeus through her bracelets, etc., Diana is the source of her own power.
An Amazon was not allowed to get married, because they thought it to be a kind to slavery to a man. However, to carry on their race, they would very often mate with men from nearby societies or with handsome prisoners of war. Once their purpose was fulfilled, the prisoners would be used as slaves or killed.
The truth is Wonder Woman was conceived like any other child. Zeus and Hippolyta at one point had an affair, and Hippolyta kept Wonder Woman's godly heritage from everyone, fearing that jealous Hera would come after her and her child. Wonder Woman was the only child produced during Hippolyta's and Zeus' union.
Origins & Name. In mythology, the Amazons were daughters of Ares, the god of war. They were members of a women-only society where men were welcomed only for breeding purposes and all male infants were killed.
In writer Brian Azzarello and artist Cliff Chiang's New 52 run, Wonder Woman's origin is changed: Diana learns she was never made out of clay, and — like what the movie implies with Ares — the clay story was used as a cover by Wonder Woman's mother to hide that she and Zeus had had a relationship.
So if Superman and Wonder Woman have a child, and she / he inherits Wonder Woman's strength and Superman's ability to absorb sunlight, that child would have 1000X of strength without sun and in the presence of sunlight it would have 1000000X.
At first, Diana is told a very mythologized, magical version of her own creation. Hippolyta initially says she wanted to have a daughter so badly, she sculpted Diana from clay, then went to Zeus and pleaded with him to imbue the clay with the breath of life. Zeus agreed to Hippolyta's request and brought Diana to life.
