Juvéderm lasts slightly longer than Restylane on average. Restylane lasts for about 10 months, while Juvéderm lasts about a year. However, both fillers do eventually require follow-up treatment and results can vary greatly from person-to-person. New products from both Juvéderm and Restylane have variable longevity.
Restylane is more granular, while Juvéderm is smoother. For this reason, Juvéderm is often used to address finer lines and wrinkles in tighter areas of the face such as the smile lines. Restylane – which stays in place better when injected – may be more adept at adding volume to sunken areas of the face.
Many plastic surgeons say that Juvederm and Restylane are the most durable and longest-lasting fillers available. Both contain hyaluronic acid and are good for smoothing wrinkles and lines. Hyaluronic acid carries 1,000 times its weight in water and makes the skin look young, supple, and soft.
For example, because Juvederm contains more hyaluronic acid, it's a little pricier than Restylane. Yet you may not need as many Juvederm injections to achieve your results, which may end up being better for your wallet.
JUVÉDERM results can last between 1 – 2 years. Restylane is used to treat the same areas of the face as JUVÉDERM. However, it tends to work well to fill in folds or lines around the nose and cheeks, and the eyes. Restylane fillers typically last 6 – 18 months, depending on the target area.
This means the skin will only improve and rejuvenate more as time passes. It doesn't just make your skin look better but actually makes it healthier, too! Because it's made up of a natural material, it gently breaks down as time passes and is safely absorbed by the tissues in the body.
Why Are Filler Results Temporary? Dermal fillers are created using naturally occurring enzymes, such as hyaluronic acid. For this reason, they are metabolized by your body over time. The speed of your metabolism will greatly affect how long your treatment results last.
Number of syringes varies from patient to patient but in our office and experience, the majority of patients doing lip injections only need 1 syringe to achieve the results they are looking for.
One syringe of Juvederm is sometimes sufficient for mild nasolabial folds. For lip augmentation, one syringe will sculpt and enhance the lips. The change will be noticeable but subtle. Two syringes will give a more dramatic size increase and enhancement.
Con: Side effects such as bruising, bleeding, and swelling
Most dermal fillers use naturally-occurring components. They are fully biocompatible and produce no known long-term adverse effects. However, in the short term, dermal fillers can cause bleeding, bruising, and swelling at injection sites.
People with higher metabolisms will experience shorter filler results because their bodies will break the filler compound down faster than those with slower metabolisms. The same goes for other treatments such as BOTOX® and Dysport®.
Bellafill is the only filler approved to treat acne and the only one shown to last around five years.
Juvéderm costs an average of $600, while Restylane costs can range between $300 and $650 per injection.
Restylane® may last anywhere from six to eighteen months, depending on the formula and the area of the face. Fillers in more mobile areas like the lips have a thin, flexible texture and do not last as long as more dense fillers such as cheek and wrinkle fillers.
The three fillers that tend to last the longest are Restylane Lyft, Restylane Defyne, Restylane Refyne, Juvederm, Voluma, Radiesse, and Sculptra. Restylane Defyne is built for balance and used in the nasal labial folds and marionette lines.
Try to sleep on your back for 24-48 hours after filler injections. After that, you can safely sleep on your side without worrying that the filler will move with gravity.
It is absolutely possible to do two syringes at the same treatment session.
No massages of the area treated or with face in a massage cradle for 2 weeks after treatment. Avoid taking Advil, Vitamin E, Ginger, Ginko, Bilboa, Ginseng, and Garlic for 2 weeks after the procedure since this may increase the risk of bruising. You may shower and do most other regular daily activities.
Unlike other dermal fillers such as Sculptra, Juvederm does not significantly expand after injection. This allows Juvederm to create a smooth result and for the patient to immediately get an idea after treatment of the result that they will live with.
This can vary from patient to patient. Typically 1 syringe is all that is needed to achieve a patient's desired look. If you are looking for a larger look than you may require 2 syringes. I do not like to inject more than 1 syringe at time as to not over inject.
The Results Improve Over Time
Because these injections stimulate your body's production of collagen and elastin, the final results of treatment won't be seen for several weeks. Even as the hyaluronic acid is processed by your body, healthy collagen and elastin grow at a more significant rate.
Smoothing Out the Lumps
The good news is yes, those pesky filler lumps will in fact go away. It's actually quite uncommon for patients to experience any irritation or lumps following their procedure, but if you do, then you should expect them to dissipate after a few days.
The thicker filler Juvederm Voluma is the longest lasting hyaluronic acid filler currently available and in most patients last about two years. It is ideal for cheeks, jawline and improving chin projection.
Which Juvederm lasts the longest? Juvederm Voluma lasts the longest of all the Juvederm products. It is very thick and is great for building and creating volume. Voluma is beautiful for the cheeks and jawline, and can even be used to treat marionette lines.
