While the Bible doesn't command daily reading as a strict law for salvation, many Christians believe God strongly encourages it as essential spiritual nourishment, like daily bread, to grow in faith, understand truth, and resist deception, even though missing a day isn't a sin, and seasons of inability (sickness, busy times) are normal, requiring flexibility like listening to audio or memorizing verses.
The plain truth is that there is very little evidence from Scripture that God has commanded Christians to read their Bibles daily.
The short answer is No, of course not. Reading the Bible daily is not a law of God. You're no more justified when you read daily compared to when you don't. Your justification before God falls not on how consistently you read Scripture but on the merits—life, death, and resurrection—of Jesus Christ.
God tells us to read (or listen to) the Bible
Throughout the Bible itself, God tells us how important it is to know and meditate on (or think about) the Bible.
Our Father is not a Father who is waiting to punish us for the slightest mistake, but a Father who graciously teaches us and lifts us up through His Word. Of course, any circumstance that keeps you from meditating on the Scriptures is worth fighting. But the reason is not that if we don't read, God gets mad at us.
God tells us 365 times in His Word: “Fear not.” Why? Because He is with you.
The biggest unforgivable sin varies by faith, but in Christianity, it's often seen as blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, a persistent rejection of God's grace, while in Islam, the gravest unforgivable sin is shirk, or associating partners with God, if not repented. Pride is also considered a foundational, serious sin across many faiths, linked to the downfall of figures like Satan.
But verse 31 is where Jesus teaches us to read the Bible. Notice specifically the question, “have you not read what was said to you by God…?” Jesus presupposes two things here that help us to read our Bibles. First, Jesus suggests we should read our Bibles as a present tense, personal address.
There are also those who do not have access to a Bible but they have been told the gospel that Jesus came and died for your sin and rose again. That he was God in the flesh and that you are a sinner on your way to hell and he offers you salvation. If you accept that gift of salvation, you are heaven bound.
Jesus speaks of forgiveness beyond what anyone had ever considered before: seventy times seven! Many commentaries understand this to mean that Jesus was telling Peter that he should forgive his brother a limitless number of times.
Read the Bible as often as you can or as often as you need to. But don't be held hostage by the duty or “chore” of Bible reading. Our extensive access to the Scriptures is a blessing, not a burden.
Humanists reject the claim that the Bible is the word of God. They are convinced the book was written solely by humans in an ignorant, superstitious, and cruel age. They believe that because the writers of the Bible lived in an unenlightened era, the book contains many errors and harmful teachings.
It is wise to read it everyday; however, you still must spend time with God everyday. Whether its in prayer, studying His word or in mediation, you need to do this every single day and without fail.
Here are Priscilla Shirer's 5 Ps:
Pour over the passage and paraphrase the major points. Pull out the Spiritual principles. Pose the questions. Plan obedience and pin down the date.
The study revealed that if you read your bible two to three times a week, there was little noticeable change in your life, but if you read it four or more times a week, all of a sudden there was a dramatic change in the impact that your reading had upon your life. The research revealed that: loneliness dropped 30%
Christianity, the largest religion in the United States, experienced a 20th-century high of 91% of the total population in 1976. This declined to 73.7% by 2016 and 64% in 2022.
In Hitler's eyes, Christianity was a religion fit only for slaves; he detested its ethics in particular. Its teaching, he declared, was a rebellion against the natural law of selection by struggle and the survival of the fittest.

The number 444 in relation to Jesus often signifies divine confirmation, spiritual protection, or a call to action, linking to themes like creation (number 4) and the Trinity (number 3), with interpretations pointing to God's presence, encouragement for spiritual growth, and the fulfillment of His purposes, seen by some as a sign of God's attention or a cycle of change. While not a direct, explicit code in the Bible, many believers connect the repetition of '4' (representing creation, the world, or stability) to Jesus's ministry and God's enduring truth, especially in angel number<>/nav>> and prophetic contexts.
Church teaching says nothing about the time of 3 a.m. However, in popular culture it has become known as the “devil's hour.” This is because Gospel tradition reports that Jesus died at 3 p.m., and so—because the devil likes to mock God—the inverse hour of 3 a.m. is considered the time the devil chooses to manifest most ...
The unforgivable sin isn't something you stumble into accidentally. It's the settled, defiant rejection of the Spirit's witness to Christ. If your sin grieves you and you desire His mercy, that itself is evidence that the Spirit is still at work in you. So turn to Him today and find rest in His forgiveness.
So now to answer the question, “Are sins of thought really as bad as committing the actual sin?” Yes. Jesus is clear. Praise God for that truth, because otherwise our sinful natures might convince us that we can do enough to enter heaven. The lesson of Jesus is that even our thoughts condemn us.
Pride is known as hubris (from the Ancient Greek ὕβρις) or futility; it is considered the original and worst of the seven deadly sins—the most demonic—on almost every list. Pride is also thought to be the source of the other capital sins. Pride is viewed as the opposite of humility.
