Iron-on hem tape is intended to be permanent and can't be removed from the fabric. Sometimes it has a paper backing that you need to peel before using.
Fusible webbing tends to be lighter than conventional hem tapes. As opposed to hem tape which comes readily pre-cut in the width of your choice, fusible webbing can be purchased by the yard or packaged in a pre-cut portion. The structure of fusible webbing resembles that of interfacing.
If the adhesion isn't strong, your iron wasn't hot enough (or you didn't hold it on long enough to let the tape get hot). Use a pressing cloth when working with delicate fabrics.
Is Hemming Tape Permanent? Good quality hemming tape is permanent and is designed to be washed. It is a great alternative to using a needle and thread and will definitely last.
While using fusible hem tape is a quick alternative to sewing a hem in place, it is permanent and cannot be removed. If you are hemming a garment that may need to be adjusted at some point, for example hemming pants, this may not be the best solution as there is no way to remove the adhesive once it has been fused.
Press the hem tape.
If your material is not cotton, it is recommended to use a press cloth in between the iron and your item. Using your iron on medium heat (150*C or 302*F) press on the hem tape.
Why isn't the HeatnBond sticking to my fabric? Please make sure you have prewashed your fabric without fabric softener. Any chemicals that the fabric was treated with may be interfering with the bonding process. The HeatnBond may also be overheated.
Heat the towel and the fabric with the iron's steam turned on, then pull the towel up and away from the fabric. The texture of the terry cloth will attract the seam tape and excess glue. Remove any of the glue left behind by rubbing a cotton ball soaked in nail polish remover over the glue.
