When do puppies start to calm down? Most puppies start to calm down as they approach their maturity age, which is usually around 12 months, but for larger breeds it can be more likely to occur between 18 months and 2 years.
One to three year-old pups can be very energetic, hardly staying still for a single minute. As they age, however, they will begin to take longer and more frequent breaks between spurts. Most dogs will lose that seemingly abundant energy as they pass the three-to-four-year mark.
It does appear that as dogs age that they become calmer but in fact, your dogs energy level is set at a certain age and will not get less, what will happen though, is that your dog will learn when to be excited and when not to be.
1/ Keep reminding yourself that your dog will calm down as he gets older and look for ways to help him burn off some of the excess energy. Although some breeds or some individuals can be more energetic than typical, most dogs' energy level will subside and gradually become more manageable.

Somewhere around one to one and a half years of age, your dog will reach emotional maturity. Small dogs get there sooner; it can take a bit longer for bigger dogs. At this point, your pup has the emotional capacity of a two to three year old human child. That means they're capable of feeling joy, fear, anger, and love.
If your dog seems hyper, or overly-excited, the problem likely stems from boredom and a lack of stimulation. So in order to address the problem, you have to assess the way you are interacting with your dog and the kind of activity your dog gets on a daily basis.
Dogs From Three to Six Years Old
Dogs are in their prime for these few years. Energy levels may have plateaued when compared to a puppy but injuries are more common during this prime age since they are typically more active than a senior dog.
Undesirable behaviours such as barking, chewing, counter surfing, house-soiling and jumping up commonly begin to occur at around 3-6 months of age.
We recommend that you walk your pooch, on average, 3 to 4 times a day for about 15 minutes. However, frequency also depends on the particular dog's: Breed. Eating habits.
A dog that is just walked will enjoy it but won't necessarily get tired just from the walking. To tire out a dog on a walk it needs to be mentally stimulated as well as physically exercised. When you walk your dog I suggest that you just take ten minutes during the walk and focus on your dog.
Like humans, dogs go through a rebellious “teenager” phase (around 5 months to 18 months). During this time, they'll often test their owners, seeing what they can get away with. Being firm and consistent with your training will help establish boundaries. And be patient!
On average, if you've got a puppy from a breeder, it could take 3 weeks- 3 months to bond with your dog. Whereas if you've got it from a rescue or is an adult dog it could take a lot longer; the key is consistency!

Don't worry, it's completely normal for this age. Your fur baby is on the tail end of the rebellious teenage phase. Training Technique:

Clicker training is particularly effective for teaching calm behavior, since the clicker lets you catch that moment of quiet and reward it. Have treats with you or stashed around the house, so you can catch and reward your dog for sitting, lying down, resting on his mat, or other calm behaviors.
Stage 5: Adolescence (6 – 18 months) This can be the most difficult time during a puppy's development – adolescence. Your cute little puppy is becoming a teenager and will start producing hormones which may result in changes in behaviour.
