Not only are dogs able to smell human pee, but they can detect specific scent notes within the urine. Thus, they can pick up the smell of hormones, sugar, and things like if the person has an infection or not.
Urine marking is a normal form of communication among dogs, and they can gather a lot of information by sniffing another dog's pee.
It has been known that human urine can repel animals as well. If there are any men camping with you, have them pee around your campsite to put the odor out there. It's the same logic as dogs peeing on trees to mark their territory.
The pheromones in dog urine are part of a complex system dogs use to communicate. Pheromones teach dogs boundaries and respectable places to urinate; however, once a dog has had an accident in the house, smelling those pheromones may encourage your dog to urinate again in the same spot.

The Root of the Behavior
The information they can gather from this single whiff is incredible. They know if it was a male or female dog. They can tell if the previous animal was ill, and can even detect whether or not they were stressed out!
Citrus. The citrus smell is arguably the best dog repellent there is. You do not have to do a lot. Simply peel an orange or a lemon next to your dog and you will observe it leaving the spot immediately.
Some signs are obvious, such as barking or scratching at the door, squatting, restlessness, sniffing around or circling. When you see these signs, immediately grab the leash and take them outside to their bathroom spot. If they eliminate, praise them and reward with a treat. Keep your puppy on leash in the yard.

Dogs do not pee to spite you, or when they are mad or for attention and revenge. Instead they will pee in the house to communicate anxiety, fear, health problems, territorial markings, or simply because they have no other option but to urinate indoors.
Inhalation of large quantities of ammonia causes immediate burning of the throat, respiratory tract and nose. As a person is exposed to larger or constant quantities of ammonia, he or she may start to feel lightheaded and faint. Excessive exposure to ammonia causes eye and skin irritation.

Just spray or pour vinegar over the poop zone. Dogs are highly sensitive to smell and hate the scent of vinegar. Willie now refuses to go anywhere we've sprayed it. If your area is under cover you'll need to re treat the area around once a week until pooch has gotten the message.
Lemon Juice – While many people find the lemon scent very appealing, most dogs find it rather repulsive. All you need to do is mix some lemon juice in water and sprinkle it on the affected area. Alcohol – Alcohol is another effective repellant you can use to get the odor from your dog's urine out of an area rug.
Urinary tract infections, cystitis (bladder inflammation), bladder stones, kidney disease, or arthritis or age-related incontinence could all be causes of house soiling in dogs.
Marking territory on walks
Remember, however, that sniffing their environment is important for your dog and they should be given ample opportunity to explore their world. Please also bear in mind that marking is normal dog behaviour and we should never punish our dogs for it.
