If you reach under the washing machine door seal and run your hand across the rubber, it is possible to feel the black sludge that has developed there. This is indicative of mould or mildew.
After each washing cycle, leave the washing machine door open slightly. This will allow the machine to air dry when not in use. Wiping the seal dry after each use can also help prevent mold from growing.
Mix one part bleach with four parts water in the spray bottle. Use the spray bottle to spray and wipe away any remaining bleach areas from the rubber seal. Be sure to pull/push it gently to get in the grooves where moisture can grow and mould can develop. Wearing rubber gloves will protect your hands from the bleach.

WD40 contains a mineral (petroleum) spirit as a carrier solvent. The mineral spirit WILL soften and swell natural rubber. It is ok to use on fuel and oil hoses but NOT coolant hoses and definitely not on door and window rubbers!

Go natural with a vinegar solution
'I mix equal parts warm distilled water and white vinegar in a spray bottle to apply liberally to the seals and drum,' Tamara says. 'I then scrub with a clean cloth or soft-bristled brush, leave it to sit for 15 minutes or so, then wipe and dry with a clean towel.'
First, measure out one cup of baking soda and sprinkle this around the rubber seal inside the drum of your washing machine. Then run the machine empty for a few wash cycles. For the best results, do so on the 90C setting. This will not only clean the rubber seal but your washing machine too.
How to clean a front-load washer: For a super quick washing machine refresh that will take you less than 30 minutes, add white vinegar to a spray bottle and spritz the inside of the drum. Wipe all around the washer drum with a microfiber cloth, leaving no surface untouched.
The Gasket Is Old and Possibly Moldy. Is your clothing coming out with black streaks on it?
