First, closeness between people can confuse a dog. Hugs, for instance, are abnormal in the canine world and can be viewed by dogs as threatening. Dogs may also view intimacy as play, which means they want to play, too.
The Root of the Behavior
While kissing and hugging come naturally to us as a form of expressing our love, it can cause your dog to have a panic attack. Kissing can give him serious stress. If your actions, as much as they are well intended, make him feel anxious in any way, then he will start to whine or cry.
It is rather an innate response triggered by the dog's self-defense system. The dog may feel alarmed, and he may go into fight-or-flight mode, but since a hug restrains him, he may more likely go into fight mode and react aggressively by giving a warning growl.
According to experts, many breeds of dogs are prone to jealousy in response to their owners' attention being diverted. Their naturally affectionate personalities can prevent them from stepping back, which can often lead to your dog displaying jealous tendencies towards you or your partner.

Whether or not dogs are more attracted to one gender can't be objectively answered because all dogs and people are different. But, dogs generally tend to be more attracted to a specific set of behaviors that are exhibited mostly by adult women. It's not that dogs are exclusively attracted to female adults.
Some dogs find it scary, while others simply find it annoying. It's common for dogs who are being kissed to try to get away, to hold their ears back, or to exhibit signs of discomfort such as tongue-flicking, yawning, lowering the tail or displaying facial and body tension.
In a nutshell, this is resource guarding. Your dog sees you as a valuable resource (i.e. you provide food, water and shelter) and wants to keep it that way.
There are multiple reasons that a dog may exhibit aggression toward family members. The most common causes include conflict aggression, fear-based, defensive aggression, status related aggression, possessive aggression, food guarding aggression and redirected aggression.
If your dog loves to lick you, chances are it's for one or more of these common reasons: they're very affectionate and showing it by "kissing" you, They are looking for your attention and have learned that licking is a good way to get it, or they are acting on their wild instinct to feed their pups.

When your dog is only afraid of you and not other people it can be due to lack of understanding your dogs way of communication.
This is because the dog sees that just one person if correcting them, enforcing the commands, doing all the pack leadership things that are built into the training, etc. So, the dog simply learns, “I have to listen to and respect this person; however, not so much this other person.”
Dogs see their owners and family members as a valuable resource that provides food, water and affection. If you notice that your dog growls or snarls at other family members only when they are interacting with you, he might be guarding you.
Fact #6: Some Breeds, and Dogs, Kiss More Than Others
“There's a different culture in each household, so wherever each of us draws a line, that's what your dog will learn,” Arden says. So, if your dog doesn't kiss you, that doesn't mean he dislikes you, nor does it mean he is depressed or physically ill in any way.
Your dog closes his eyes when he licks because licking feels good. Licking releases endorphins, the feel-good hormone, and allows him a release of tension and stress. When he licks himself, you, or another dog, he feels good and this is perfectly normal.
Dogs may bark at people when they hug for a variety of reasons, including jealousy, fear, or a desire for attention. It's possible that your dog feels left out or ignored when you and your husband hug and is barking as a way of seeking attention or reassurance.
Male dogs are usually more affectionate than females, and some positively crave human attention. You'll find it's always you who brings the cuddling and fussing to an end – he could happily go on like this all day!
There is no significant difference between male or female dogs in terms of protective behaviors. Territorial or protective behaviors are more pronounced in unaltered dogs than in neutered dogs, and breed plays a role as well.
Like their human counterparts, dogs develop favorite people over time based on positive experiences and positive associations with that person. Some people use tasty treats and other rewards to create strong bonds with pets, but the best way to build a healthy relationship with your dog is through play.
