Like Vader, Darth Revan started as a Jedi Knight, being the most powerful Jedi of the time, before switching over to the Dark Side of the Force, becoming an unstoppable Sith who practically purged the galaxy of his enemies. While their stories are similar, Darth Revan went even further than Vader.
In Star Wars Canon, only Luke Skywalker can be acknowledged as the one who truly defeated Darth Vader.
Regardless, Vader reported to Tarkin as Tarkin officially outranked him, as designed by the Emperor to limit his power within the Empire.
In the original trilogy, Palpatine is depicted as the Emperor of the Galactic Empire and the master of Darth Vader (Anakin Skywalker).

In the process, the Emperor enhanced his apprentice's abilities as he earned back his spot in the Empire. Growing in his power, Vader's confidence that he can kill his master gives him a new perspective. “You can destroy the Emperor.
Some time later, he faced the Sith Lord Darth Vader. Infil'a put up a fierce fight against Vader, almost killing him by throwing the already damaged Sith Lord off of a cliff. Despite severe damage to his suit, Vader survived the fall, and repaired himself with parts from Infil'a's droid, Arex.
Even after his brutal scorching in the fires of Mustafar, sand remained the only natural phenomenon that Vader feared. To him, sand was a reminder that he'd failed to save his mother or Padme from death.
As Darth Vader, Skywalker was believed to have had roughly eight-tenths of the strength of the Emperor. Nevertheless, Vader wielded tremendous power and skill, enough to use the Force to overpower almost any opponent he could not defeat with his lightsaber.
Mas Amedda – Grand Vizier of the Imperial Ruling Council and Vice-Chair of the Imperial Senate, later installed by Gallius Rax as puppet leader following Palpatine's death in Aftermath: Life Debt. Amedda formally surrenders the Galactic Empire to the New Republic in Aftermath: Empire's End.
Palpatine shows Kylo the might of the Sith fleet and says it could all be his, a new Empire, if he kills Rey, ends the Jedi, and becomes what his grandfather, Vader, could not. However, when Rey arrives on Exegol, Palpatine tells her that he never wanted her dead, but wanted her on Exegol with him.
Emperor Palpatine's "son" was a strandcast cloned from his genetic template. Dathan was an artificially constructed strandcast from the genetic template of Sidious. and the lone specimen that lived through the cloning process.
Yet he kept it to himself, as he didn't care about the Sith or the Force. Although Tarkin didn't believe in the Force, he respected Vader a lot, as he was the Emperor's enforcer, and he even grew to admire Vader's way of inducing fear within others.
Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi have a unique relationship in Star Wars: Attack of the Clones. The master and Padawan have profound mutual respect and admiration but are not afraid to question each other in times of conflict or uncertainty.
Darth Vader saved Luke at the end of 'The Return of the Jedi' because of the inner conflict that he never fully forswore. Darth Vader's torn persona finds its roots in the Jedi and the man he used to be – Anakin Skywalker.
