The Jedi Order became Obi-Wan Kenobi's new family when he joined their ranks as a child. The Kenobi family was a human family that consisted of Obi-Wan Kenobi, his father and mother, and a baby he believed was his brother.
In the story, we learn that Obi-Wan took on the name Ben because it's a nickname given to him by an old flame, the Duchess Satine Kryze. He takes on the name because it still has emotional resonance for him.
