When translated directly from Polish to English, Jaskier means Buttercup, a name that doesn't quite properly fit the bard's personality. So instead of Buttercup, the translator opted to change Jaskier's name to Dandelion, seeing that it better fit the character.
When we're reunited with the bard for the first time in two years, he's singing a break-up song about his burning love for Geralt. "When I wrote it, it did come from the heart, perhaps a broken one..." he even admits at one point.
Dandelion's original Polish name, "Jaskier", literally means "Buttercup", but was changed in the English translation because "Buttercup" sounded too feminine in English. In the Czech translation of the books and the game, Dandelion's name is "Marigold" and Triss Merigold is called "Triss Ranuncul".
Dandelion is, canonically, a serial womanizer. He has wooed, charmed, flirted with, and generally courted countless women, and a large number of them have accepted his advances.
Both ferns and dandelions reproduce sexually and asexually, although the life cycle of all angiosperms is more complex than pteridophytes. Both plants release large numbers of progeny; ferns use spores, dandelions seeds.
Dandelions are both male and female at the same time. For most hermaphroditic flowers, the genders develop at slightly different times to avoid inbreeding. Inbreeding allows negative traits that are normally recessive to become physical traits, which isn't good.
The Witcher spoilers follow.
The Witcher's Joey Batey has revealed he struggled with his dark torture scene in season two of the Netflix series. In the second season, Joey's character Jaskier finds himself captured by Rience who tortures him for information about Geralt and Ciri.
Witcher Theory: Why Jaskier Hasn't Aged (Is He Immortal?)
Unlike Geralt and Yennefer, Jaskier hasn't gone through any mutations or experimentations, and he's a regular human being, which is why Geralt was often worried about him tagging along as he could easily die, as he almost did when they found the Djinn.
Jaskier/Dandelion
His date of birth unfortunately isn't specified in the show but he's supposed to be around 18/20 when he first meets Geralt and approaching 40 when they have their falling out.
He is canonically heartbroken over Geralt blaming him for everything that went wrong in his life and abandoning him in Caingorn. This could have been minimized—Jaskier could have been annoyed but over it—but instead, he takes his heartbreak seriously.
When Digital Spy asked series creator Lauren S Hissrich about this, she denied any homoerotic undertones and said Jaskier and Geralt's relationship is “just an example of male friendship”.
The child turns out to be a girl, Cirilla, commonly known as Ciri; since then the two are linked to each other. At first, Geralt does not take her because women cannot become witchers.
Dandelions are thought to have evolved about 30 million years ago in Eurasia. Fossil seeds of Taraxacum tanaiticum have been recorded from the Pliocene of southern Belarus. Dandelions have been used by humans for food and as an herb for much of recorded history.
When Jaskier finally caught up to Yennefer, he discovered that she'd been taken prisoner. However, as they were about to take her away, she muttered an incantation and disappeared. Unfortunately for Jaskier, he was caught peeping and thrown in jail.
In short, Geralt blamed his friend for everything that caused him angst in his life and thus left him in the camp before the dragon encounter ever unfolded.
By the time Geralt appears in the first episode of the Netflix series The Witcher, he is already 71, though he is played by 36-year-old Henry Cavill. Aside from his catlike eyes, white hair and world-weary attitude, Geralt doesn't really show his age.
Because he inexplicably looks the same in his early 40s as he did at 18, there are some Witcher theories that Jaskier is immortal, either through a stroke of accidental magic or a yet-unknown parentage.
Rience (d. November 1267) was a mage who was instructed to find Ciri after she disappeared during the slaughter of Cintra. While powerful, he wasn't nearly as powerful as his master, Vilgefortz.
9/10 Rience Is As Dangerous As The Fire Magic He Wields
Rience demonstrates his magical aptitude several times in the show, wielding the forbidden fire-magic as both an intimidation tactic and in combat. His rage and anger are also fueled when Yennefer burns him saving Jaskier, leaving him with some truly nasty scars.
The short answer, based on the show's official timeline, is that Jaskier is 18 when he meets Geralt, and that about 23 years have passed between then and where the show is currently, meaning he should now be 41.
Dandelion (real name: Julian Alfred Pankratz) is a major character of The Witcher franchise. He is a poet, minstrel and bard, and the best friend of Geralt of Rivia. Not much is known about his parentage, except for the fact that he is of noble blood.
The smaller Dwarf Dandelion (K. virginica), found in sandy sites, has a solitary flower head rising from a set of toothed or lobed basal leaves and is less than 1 foot (30 cm) tall. Potato Dandelion (K.
Taraxacum officinale, the dandelion or common dandelion, is a flowering herbaceous perennial plant of the dandelion genus in the family Asteraceae (syn. Compositae).
