Use a fast-acting nicotine medicine like lozenges or gum to quickly combat cravings. You can control how often you use the fast-acting medicine, so you won't get more nicotine than you want. This combination is easy to use. Using two NRTs together can help you quit more successfully than using a single medicine.
Zyban® is a brand of bupropion, which is a medication that helps you quit smoking. It works by reducing cravings for nicotine. Nicotine is the addictive substance in tobacco.
Champix and Zyban both do the same job, but that's where their similarities end. Champix is manufactured by Pfizer, and the drug was approved and released as a smoking cessation medication in 2006. The active ingredient is varenicline tartrate. In comparison, Zyban has been around much longer.
Are Zyban and Chantix the Same Thing? Zyban (bupropion) and Chantix (varenicline) are used for smoking cessation. The Wellbutrin brand of bupropion is used to treat depression. Zyban is an antidepressant and Chantix is a partial agonist selective for a4ß2 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor subtypes.
It has been withdrawn as a precaution, because of an impurity found in the medicine. It may be unavailable long-term. It's not yet known whether it will be available again in future. Champix is a medicine that can help you stop smoking.
At 52 weeks, women in the group treated with Zyban gained an average of 13.86 pounds less than the women in the placebo group. At 18 months, women in the group treated with Zyban gained an average of 8.14 pounds less than the women in the placebo group.

The TGA has been advised that very low levels of the N-nitrosovarenicline have been detected in Australian varenicline products. As a precautionary measure, the sponsor of Champix, Pfizer Australia, has paused global distribution of this product while this issue is investigated.

- Start taking Champix 1 to 2 weeks (7 to 14 days) before your quit date. - You can keep smoking during this time. - Make sure that you try to stop smoking on your quit date. If you slip-up and smoke, try again.
Dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, diarrhea, fatigue, constipation, blurred vision, increased sweating, strange taste in mouth, or stomach pain may also occur. If any of these effects last or get worse, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
The Pros and Cons of Taking Zyban
Zyban has been shown to be particularly effective when used along with a nicotine replacement therapy like the patch or gum. The pros associated with taking this medication are: It's easy to take. It contains no nicotine, so there is no problem with toxicity if you still smoke.
Bupropion (Zyban SR) was first marketed in Australia late in 2000 as a short-term aid to giving up smoking and has had very high usage. It was initially developed as an antidepressant.
Nicotine vaccines were developed to help people stop smoking, prevent relapse, and to prevent people from becoming addicted to nicotine. Once administered, the vaccine creates antibodies that can block nicotine's effects on the body.
Carry on taking one tablet, twice a day for up to 9 weeks. If you have not been able to stop smoking after 7 weeks, your doctor will advise you to stop taking Zyban.
Champix 1mg tablets are then used from your second week of treatment onwards. This will generally be for 12 weeks, although people who have previously tried and failed to stop when using Champix for 12 weeks may try again using a longer course of 24 weeks.
