The strongest living thing depends on how "strength" is measured, but the African elephant is the strongest in sheer lifting power (moving tons), while the dung beetle is the strongest relative to its size (pulling 1000x its weight). For impact, the mantis shrimp has the fastest punch, and the saltwater crocodile has the strongest bite.
African Bush Elephants
The African bush elephant holds the title of the strongest animal on earth. Its trunk alone is able to lift more than 400 lbs. As the world's strongest animal on land, elephants—who take decades to finish growing—symbolize the sheer force that nature wields.
1 – Graphene 3D
Made of pure carbon, ultra-thin graphene is considered one of the strongest materials on the planet.
The hands down hardest creature is a tardigrade, also known as a waterbear. Less than 1.5mm long, they can dehydrate their bodies to just 1 per cent of their normal water content. Without water, most chemical reactions happen too slowly to harm them and ice crystals can't rupture their cells.
It turns out that tardigrades can survive freezing, radiation, and low-oxygen conditions without forming a tun or making TDPs. So they must have other protection mechanisms too. In 2016, a team of scientists from Japan brought tardigrades back to life that had been in a frozen state in Antarctica for 30 years.
Nematodes (a kind of worm), amoebas, and sometimes even other tardigrades all prey on tardigrades.
THE LION – KING OF THE ANIMALS
How much do you know about this powerful feline predator? The lion (Panthera leo) is described as the animal king, though the tiger is in fact the largest feline predator. The lion's impressive mane belongs only to the males.
1. Mosquito (780,000 deaths per year) The tiny mosquito is the most dangerous animal in the world as well as the most dangerous insect, claiming 780,000 lives annually.
The Amur leopard is one of the rarest big cats in the world, with only around 100 individuals left in the wild.
From lions and elephants to ants and banded mongooses, these aggressive animals are responsible for some of the greatest fights to the death in the animal kingdom.
Gold is clearly the most durable, but many objects fashioned from silver, copper, bronze, iron, lead, and tin have survived for several thousand years. Dry environments, such as tombs, appear to be optimum for metal preser- vation, but some metals have survived in shipwrecks for over a thousand years.
One astonishing example is graphene, derived from the same graphite in common pencils. A sheet just one atom thick, graphene is essentially two-dimensional, it weighs next to nothing, and yet it's up to 300 times stronger than steel. Graphene dissipates heat more quickly than any other known material.
As the hardest mineral found on earth, diamonds are the least likely to change with time. They form under incredibly high pressure, way beneath the Earth's surface - hundreds of miles beneath the surface, in fact!
In popular media, the honey badger has garnered a reputation for being an intelligent, fearless animal with nicknames or titles given to it include "pound for pound, the most powerful creature in Africa", "most fearless animal in the world", "bravest animal in the world" and "meanest animal in the world".
A lion's bite force is around 650 PSI (pounds per square inch). Tigers, on the other hand, are lone hunters and have a more muscular build. A tiger's bite force is around 1000 PSI, making them one of the strongest predators in the animal kingdom.
The strongest animal in the world is the African bush elephant, which is capable of lifting 6,000kg, its own body weight from lying down. Even their trunks can lift over 200kg, thanks to over 40,000 muscles. For context, an adult humans have just over 600 muscles in their entire bodies.
Here are four animals at risk of extinction by 2050.
The so-called 'immortal' jellyfish, or Turritopsis dohrnii, can somehow reprogramme the identity of its own cells, returning it to an earlier stage of life. ADVERTISEMENT.
The Northern White rhino is on the brink of extinction. In the chart, you can see the collapse of this beautiful animal's population as a result of poaching, habitat loss, and conflict. Now, only two individuals are left — Najin and her daughter, Fatu.
Taken together, heart diseases and cancers are the cause of every second death. In red are infectious diseases, which are responsible for around 1-in-7 deaths. These include pneumonia, diarrheal diseases, tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, and malaria. A smaller share – around 4% – was from neonatal and maternal deaths.
The top predators in the world include the great white shark, known for its powerful bite and hunting technique, and the lion, which hunts cooperatively in prides. Other notable predators are the grizzly bear, famous for its strength and speed, and the killer whale, which uses sophisticated hunting strategies.
“What eats me”
Lions have few predators to fear other than humans. A very young or sickly lion might fall prey to hyenas. Cubs may be attacked and eaten by adult male lions. Lions are most threatened by humans who hunt them and encroach on their habitat.
In ancient Greek religion and mythology, Artemis (/ˈɑːrtɪmɪs/; Ancient Greek: Ἄρτεμις) is the goddess of the hunt, the wilderness, wild animals, transitions, nature, vegetation, childbirth, care of children, and chastity.
Tigers are not only larger on average, but they're also more adept at fighting while standing on their hind legs, giving them an edge in combat. Some argue that a lion's mane might provide some protection for the neck, but the effectiveness of this is highly debated.
