If the person's death is expected and natural, you don't have to call a doctor right away. If they die during the night you can wait until the morning before calling a doctor. If there is no doctor available, call the police.
If death happens at home without hospice, try to talk with the doctor, local medical examiner (coroner), your local health department, or a funeral home representative in advance about how to proceed. You can also consider a home funeral, which is legal in most states.
Call 911. You must call 911 because you want to make sure that the person is deceased. EMT professionals must resuscitate unless you have a Do Not Resuscitate order, POLST or MOLST form that you can show them. If you do, the paramedics will certify that the person is deceased.
Money owed to customers after they have died
You can ask Centrelink to check if any payments are owing to the customer's estate. You must show us proof that you are Executor or Administrator. Download and complete the Executor/Administrator Request for information form (SS524).

Does Centrelink Help with Funeral Costs? Yes, Centrelink (also known as Services Australia) has funeral assistance available in Queensland and nationwide. There are several types of bereavement assistance which are dependent on your personal situation and the situation of the person who has died.
How Grief Affects Sleep. Sleep, or lack of it, is a common complaint of grief. People who have more grief symptoms are more likely to take longer to fall asleep, wake up for periods of time after falling asleep, and spend a significant portion of their time in bed awake rather than asleep.
Traditional Catholic funerals have a wake that lasts 1-2 days before the funeral. The funeral is usually within three days of death.
Don't try to minimize their loss, provide simplistic solutions, or offer unsolicited advice. It's far better to just listen to your loved one or simply admit: “I'm not sure what to say, but I want you to know I care.” Be willing to sit in silence. Don't press if the grieving person doesn't feel like talking.
If your spouse dies at night: Unless they are in hospice or have a full-time caregiver, call 911. They will send a paramedic to give you a legal death pronouncement or to transport your partner to the hospital so a nurse or doctor can provide one.
The probate process will determine your right to stay in the house after your partner's death. If your partner had a will, the property gets distributed per their wishes. If they did not have a will, the property gets distributed per the intestacy laws.
Check in every now and then just to say hello (you may find it helpful to put reminders on your calendar). Most bereaved people find it difficult to reach out and need others to take the initiative.
A question about the death may come across as insensitive and force that person to make excuses for their loved ones to maintain their privacy. Further, it may bring back unnecessary pain of the loss all over again. If an obituary doesn't offer the cause of death, never ask.
Getting a legal pronouncement of death.
If someone dies while not in medical or hospice care, call 911. When paramedics arrive, they will generally start resuscitation. If the person has a “do not resuscitate order,” present that to the paramedics when they arrive.
A simple “I'm sorry for your loss” is fine if you don't know them very well. However, it's often better if you can say something about the person who has passed away. Saying something personal that kindly remembers the person and what they meant to you is very much appreciated.
Funeral Bond Allowable limit
As at 1 July 2022 the allowable limit is $14,000. The Department of Social Services reviews this limit on 1 July each year. If you jointly own a funeral bond, we count it as a single bond that you own.
Although Centrelink does not offer financial assistance with the funeral of a Centrelink recipient, they do provide a bereavement payment to eligible recipients that can be used by family to assist with paying for the funeral.

Once you notify us and provide at least one of the Proof of Death documents, then a permanent hold will be placed on any transaction accounts solely held by the deceased. This means: No money can be taken out of the accounts.
To officially notify us of a person's death you will need the death certificate and may need other supporting documents. If you do not yet have the supporting documents, you can phone us to let us know unofficially that the person has died. We will pause the deceased's tax correspondence until you are ready.
