Unlike most rodent species that are nocturnal (active at night), most lizards are active in the daytime (diurnal). For large portions of the day they prefer to maintain a body temperature about the same as ours, around 99, give or take a few degrees.
Diurnal Lizards Sleep at Night
They prefer to bask under sunlight or flee into shadows when it's too hot outside, so keep an eye out for them during these times.
Of the nearly 6,000 species of lizard known worldwide, most are diurnal creatures that spend portions of their day basking in the sunlight. A handful of species have a different lifestyle, and have evolved to hide during the day and become active at night.
Yet since they cannot generate their own body heat, they are whatever temperature it is outside. In the morning, this is why you see lizards basking in the sun. During the day, when they get up to a desired temperature, they shuttle between sunny and shady areas to maintain their desired body temperature.
Basking is common to most active diurnal reptiles. Lizards, crocodiles, terrapins, and snakes routinely make use of the morning sun to raise their body temperature. Freshwater turtles and terrapins have been found to bask and raise their body temperature close to the highest temperatures that they can tolerate.
Lizards are attracted to bright light for two reasons: they're a heat source, and they attract insects. Turning off lights and keeping rooms of your home dark when you're not using them can make your living spaces less friendly to lizards.
Lower Your Room Temperature to Keep Lizards Away
Unfortunately, only opening windows and using fans won't do the trick. It's the air conditioning that will become a solution to the problem of how to get rid of the lizards. Keep your home at least at 22°Celsius as cold temperatures make lizards uncomfortable.
Lizards do pushups as a show of fitness and readiness for whatever comes their way. This is in a situation where the lizard senses a threat or needs to assert dominance in its territory.
Some behavioural signs of stress while being handled include aggression (hissing, puffing up, biting) and cloacal evacuation (defecation). Reptiles that are comfortable with their owners will often display exploratory behaviour, e.g. tongue flicks while moving calmly around/on the owner.

Lizard Lifespan
The lifespan of a Lizard depends on the species of Lizards. Geckos survive for about 10-15 years in a typical home, the Chameleons are known to survive for around 5-7 years, the Iguanas survive for about 20 years, and the Komodo Dragons, the biggest of the reptiles, live for an average of 40 years.
This is because they usually need space and do not really come forward attacking humans. They seem to be afraid of humans; they will run away from predators if they feel threatened. One way to manage your phobia is to take action to ensure your home is not attractive to lizards.
Lizards love dark, cool places, and homes offer plenty of those. They'll hide behind cupboards and furniture and are often found behind sheds, raised garden beds, and benches outdoors.
DIY: Lizards love damp and dark places, such as the areas under bathroom and kitchen sinks, storerooms and basements (if your house happens to have one).
Lizards lay their eggs anywhere dark and moist, such as under woodpiles, sheds, and decks. Nesting sites can also be found beneath shrubs and in areas of tall grass. Younger, smaller females produce fewer eggs than older, larger ones, and experienced lizards can instinctually scope out safer nesting sites.
Blankets, newspaper and paper towels or all work well. Blankets are recommended particularly during cold weather. You can use a wet towel if your lizard requires a moist environment, or dry towels if it doesn't. This will also provide cushioning for comfort and your lizard will feel calm with something to burrow into.

In the wild, these lizards use this as a way of showing they understand that they're not the strongest creature in the area. Sending this signal is a way to demonstrate that they're not interested in challenging the other animal for dominance. This helps them stay safe and avoid unwanted encounters.
A lizard falling in front of you while starting a trip is not considered a good indicator. In such a situation, cancel the journey if possible or resume it after a prayer and an offering of a coin to your deity. Disputes between family members and relatives are predicted if two lizards fall down together.

The pungent odour of garlic and onions drives away lizards
Another thing that lizards despise is the pungent smell of garlic and onion. Keep a few cloves of raw garlic or slices of onion in various corners of your home. Over time, the odour will shoo away the lizards.
The smell of food leftovers attracts lizards. Ensure that food is stored in your refrigerator rather than on kitchen surfaces. They get access to the house through ceiling cracks, windows, exhaust fans, and ventilation systems.
