The period of growth between germination and flowering is known as the vegetative phase of plant development. During the vegetative phase, plants are busy carrying out photosynthesis and accumulating resources that will be needed for flowering and reproduction. Different types of plants show different growth habits.
The vegetative stage begins when the seedling emerges (VE) and continues until tasseling (VT), when the reproductive stage begins. During the vegetative stage, leaves develop and grow, the stalk forms and reproductive structures (ear and tassel) begin to form.
The vegetative stage in Cannabis plants may last from 3 to 16 weeks, or even more in outdoor crops. Most growers vegetate their indoor plants for 4-8 weeks, depending on the desired plant size. Cannabis plants are usually able to start flowering from the 4th week of the vegetative stage.
Give Your Plants More Light – If you're growing indoors, then as long as you give your plants more than 14 hours of light each day, they'll stay in the vegetative stage. But you can actually give them 24 hours of light each day and it's like “forcing” more growth.
During the earlier stages of plant growth, the fan leaves should only be removed if they yellow or dry out. However, once the plant begins to flower, you can trim off some of the fan leaves. However, don't remove more than half of the fan leaves, because they are still needed by the plant.
The longer you keep your plants in the vegetative stage, the bigger your plant will be, resulting in bigger yields from plants that were vegetated longer.
Growers can switch to the flowering stage as soon as the clone has established a solid root system. In optimal conditions, plants should be kept in their vegetative stage for approximately 60 days. This time period should give the plant the opportunity to maximise yield and acclimatise to growing conditions.

No matter how long your plant was in a vegetative growth phase, the it will produce buds and finish flowering in 8 to 9 weeks. That means that your veg period could be two weeks or six months. It won't make a difference as to the length of the flowering period, which will remain around 60 days.
So, the veg stage is when growers determine if plants are female or male, discarding any males that pop up immediately to avoid pollination. Typically, plants will show their sex around the 6-week mark for reference. All in all, the veg cannabis growth stage typically lasts anywhere from 4-8 weeks.

During vegetative growth you will want to use a fertilizer that is high in nitrogen at full strength. Nitrogen is used by the plant to grow stems, leaves, and other green parts and so is absolutely essential to the vegetative phase of growth.
In week 5 of flowering, you can observe the buds all over your plant becoming thicker. You may also spot new buds growing in new places such as along the main cola. With buds abounding, your cannabis plants will get fatter every day. This is a surefire sign you are in full flowering mode.
You'll want to lollipop your plants just before they begin flowering. We also recommend pruning—removing unnecessary branches—as well, although you should proceed slowly, and with a plan.
Switching from Veg to Bloom
Plants need at least 13 hours of light each day to stay in veg – a few 'long' nights may be enough to trigger budding. Plants begin budding when they get at least 12 hours of 'uninterrupted' darkness each night (12/12). This must continue until harvest.
Four Stages of Plant Life Cycle
Flowering plants go through several stages: Germination, Pollination, Fertilization, and Dispersal. This is the stage at which the plants begin to sprout from the seed. In this case, the seed's root develops beneath the earth, while the upper body stem and leaves grow above it.
Vegetative growth in plants is defined as the period of growth of the plant between germination and flowering. During this period, all other parts undergo development other than the reproductive parts - the flowers.
Floral leaves are usually arranged as whorls on the axis. Vegetative leaves are arranged oppositely, alternatively or as whorls on the shoot axis. Node and internode differentiation is not distinct in floral axis. Node and internode are well distinguished in the vegetative branch.
Ideally, we recommend defoliating your plants once during veg and once during flower. If you're an inexperienced grower, only defoliate once during veg.
Pre-flowering Stage: First Signs of Flowering Stage
During this stage, the first signs of flowering stage become apparent, such as the emergence of pistils. Pistils are small hair-like structures that appear at the nodes of the plant, indicating that it is entering the flowering stage.
Because bud formation starts after 7 hours of dark period, it is also wise to always maintain a minimum day length of 17 to 18 hours during the vegetative period. A dark period of 12 hours is used as a standard in cannabis to ensure a smooth flowering process.
For a standard potting mix, fertilizing once or twice a week should be sufficient. For more frequent feedings the base nutrient should be used at a lower rate since it is being applied more often.
Radish. Radishes are probably the fastest growing vegetable in your garden, being ready to pick in as little as 30 days from planting the seeds. Their peppery flavor is a hit on the vegetable tray or added to a fresh lettuce salad.
In the last two weeks, the buds will mostly be ripening and not really growing much more in size. At this point, the previously white pistils on the buds will now slowly turn amber-brown.
