DINKs are often targets of marketing efforts for investment products and luxury items because they usually have higher disposable incomes. There are several main categories of dual-income couples with no kids, including new couples, empty nesters, gay married couples, and other childless couples.
Infertility means not being able to get pregnant after one year of trying (or six months if a woman is 35 or older). Women who can get pregnant but are unable to stay pregnant may also be infertile.
Demographic Differences in Definition of Family
Virtually every major demographic group agrees that a married couple with or without children falls within their definition of family.

Qualitative data show that key perceived advantages are fewer worries or problems, financial benefits, greater freedom, and career flexibility. The major disadvantages are lack of companionship/being alone/loneliness, lack of support and care when older, and missing the experience of parenthood.
The crosstabs suggest that for about three in 10 young adults (ages 18-41) who say they do not want to have children, the biggest factor in their decision is their personal financial situation, followed by work/life balance, at 21 percent. “Maintaining my personal independence” came in third, at 18 percent.

Legal status
Couples who live together are sometimes called common-law partners. This is just another way of saying a couple are living together. You might be able to formalise aspects of your status with a partner by drawing up a legal agreement called a cohabitation contract or living together agreement.
