65% of all students were aged 15-24 years, with a further 18% aged 25-34 years. 31% of these current students were at school, while 42% were at higher education institutions, 15% were studying at technical and further education (TAFE) institutions, and 12% were studying at other education or training institutions.
In 2020: nearly half of students aged 15–64 (1.4 million, 44%) were enrolled with a higher education institution, while around 1 in 7 (475,000, 15%) were enrolled with a TAFE institution (ABS 2020)
Just under 30 percent of Australians hold a bachelor level degree or higher. This proportion of the population with a university education has risen more than three-fold over the last three decades from less than eight percent.
Attainment of Year 12 or equivalent
The attainment rate is the proportion of all estimated Year 12 students who meet the requirements of a Year 12 or equivalent qualification (see glossary) (SCRGSP 2021). This rate increased from 70% in 2010 to a peak of 79% in 2018, before declining to 72% in 2019.

Few Australians pursue tertiary education beyond a bachelor's degree. Only 10% of young adults have attained a higher level degree (master's or doctoral) compared to 15% on average across OECD countries (Figure 1). Tertiary students in Australia take longer to complete their degree than average.

And that confusion creates tensions that are often overwhelming. I decided to ask students in years 11, 12 and 13 what year of school they found they toughest. Year 9 came out top by a country mile, with year 11 trailing in second place.
Over 11 million (11,511,655) people in Australia reported having a non-school (vocational or tertiary) qualification, a 19.8 per cent increase since 2016. 5.5 million people (5,464,631) reported having a bachelor degree or higher, a 30.7 per cent increase since 2016.
When the Grattan Institute released its 'Costs and Benefits of Dropping Out of University' report in April 2018, it highlighted drop-out rates as a serious issue that universities need to solve. In Australia, 50,000 students drop out of university each year – that's more than one in five students.

Some people may find that the workload increases drastically in Year 12, while other students (who were maybe very studious in Year 11) won't think there's any increase in work at all. The best thing you can do for yourself in Year 11 is to treat it like Year 12.
Going into high school, many students hear that freshman year is the “easiest” year. Some think that colleges don't consider it as much as they do the remaining three years. While this is typically true, it doesn't mean that students should dismiss the importance of their freshman year.

The average Australian has a net worth of more than AUD $500k. Australia is often ranked in the top-five globally, fuelled by high house prices and mandatory retirement savings. Households managed to add to their wealth during Covid-19, but wealth inequality worsened a little despite welfare handouts.
Australians living in rural areas have the highest wellbeing, marginally ahead of those in capital and regional cities. Queensland claimed the title of the country's happiest state.
ACT is ranked the most educated state or territory based on percentage, although as the largest state in Australia NSW still has largest actual number of persons with a Bachelor degree or higher. In the traditional NSW/Victoria rivalry, it is Victoria however, that is ranked a little higher than NSW on percentage.
