Things that look like hemangiomas but aren't usually include Vascular Malformations (like venous, lymphatic, or port-wine stains) and other rare vascular tumors, differing from true hemangiomas because they're present at birth, grow with the child (not shrinking), and are formed from abnormal vessel types (arteries, veins, lymphatics) rather than the rapid cell growth/shrinkage of infantile hemangiomas. Other potential mimics, especially in specific locations, can include Kaposiform Hemangioendothelioma, Tufted Angioma, or even benign tumors like lipomas or keloids, though these have different features.

Deep capillary hemangiomas may be more challenging to diagnose than superficial capillary hemangiomas and can be confused with other orbital lesions. Deep orbital hemangiomas can mimic teratoma, lymphangioma, rhabdomyosarcoma, metastatic neuroblastoma, and granulocytic sarcoma.
