While specific data changes, areas like Allerdale, Copeland, and Ryedale often rank highest for White populations in the UK based on census data, with rural areas typically more homogenous than cities, but cities like Plymouth, Hull, and Swansea have shown very high White British percentages in the past, though recent data points to diverse cities like London and Leicester having majorities.
Hialeah, Florida is the whitest city in the United States with 92.6% of its population identifying as White. The non-Hispanic white population, however, is only 2.57%.
Demography. Easington is notable for being the town with the highest percentage of white residents in England (99.2% white in 2001). According to the results of the 2001 census, it also has the UK's lowest population of Jedi knights.
47.8% of the total Black British population live in London.
London is one of the most linguistically diverse cities in the world. More than 300 languages are spoken across its boroughs, reflecting its status as a global metropolis. Areas such as Southall, Brick Lane and Chinatown offer rich cultural experiences, from authentic cuisine to traditional festivals.
The most popular destination in the UK among migrants is London. Based on UK census data from 2021 (2022 in Scotland), London emerges as the most popular destination for migrants (Figure 1).
Government data about the UK's different ethnic groups. 82% of people in England and Wales are White, and 18% belong to a Black, Asian, Mixed or Other ethnic group (2021 Census data).
Cities across the UK regions with high White British populations included Swansea (91.5%), Kingston Upon Hull (89.7%), Plymouth (92.2%), Darlington (93.7%), Belfast (96.4% – NI classification "white"), Norwich (84.7%), Liverpool (84.8%) and Chelmsford (90.0%).
Today the term commonly refers to the majority of the four metropolitan boroughs of Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall and Wolverhampton although it is said that "no two Black Country men or women will agree on where it starts or ends".
Jaywick, near Clacton-on-Sea in Essex, has been named the most deprived neighbourhood in England for the fourth consecutive time since 2010, new data shows.
Unsurprisingly, most of the Pakistanis in the UK live in Greater London. The capital is home to almost 300,000 people of Pakistani descent. Other expat hubs include Birmingham (around 200,000), Bradford (140,000), and Manchester (66,000).
The US population is approximately 331 million people, with around 77.4% identifying as White Americans, which translates to roughly 247 million people of European ancestry, including groups such as German Americans, Irish Americans, English Americans, Italian Americans, and Polish Americans.
Detroit is the least diverse major city in America. It performed especially poorly in the household diversity category.
The name has been in use since the mid-19th century and is thought to refer to the colour of the coal seam or the air pollution from the many thousands of foundries and factories around at the time. In 1862, American diplomat Elihu Burritt famously described the area as 'black by day and red by night'.
For the Victorians, race was a description of social distinction, not of colour differences. Indeed, the view of non-Europeans as an inferior race was but an extension of the already existing view of the working class at home and took a considerable time to be established as the normative view.
Currently, Birmingham is commonly referred to as the UK's second city, although Manchester has also emerged as a contender. Edinburgh, Cardiff, and Belfast also have alternative claims due to their status as capital cities of the other countries of the United Kingdom: Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland respectively.
In the 2021 census for England and Wales, 81.7% of the population identified as White, but only 74.4% identified as "White British" (inclusive of English, Welsh, Scottish, and Northern Irish).
Leicester is one of the most diverse cities in England, and is considerably more diverse than neighbouring Leicestershire and nearby Rutland. 43% of Leicester's population is Asian, of whom the majority are of Indian heritage.
All of these local authorities are within London, which is the region with the largest proportion of non-British nationals residing (23%). The UK region with the lowest proportion of non-British nationals is North East England (4%).
Varied ethnic backgrounds
Black British citizens, with African and/or African-Caribbean ancestry, are the largest ethnic minority population, at three percent of the total population. Indian Britons are one of the largest overseas communities of the Indian diaspora and make up 2.3 percent of the total UK population.
Our research suggests that unless there is a radical change of policy, the share of the UK population that is white British will fall sharply from just over 70 per cent today to below 34 per cent by the year 2100. They will be a minority in the country in 2063, just 38 years from now.

The 2021 United Kingdom census recorded a population of 355,977 or 0.5% of the population in the United Kingdom, with about 40% of the whole population residing in Greater London.
