ORIGIN of South Sea Golden Pearls
The golden color on the lip of the oyster determines the color of the pearls as they form inside. Golden South Sea Pearls hail from Indonesia and the Philippines, from warmer, more southern waters than their South Sea White Pearl counterparts.

The richest oyster beds are around the town of Broome, Western Australia, 2000 kilometres north of Perth, 1500 kilometres south of Darwin. South Sea Pearls are often referred to as Broome Pearls or Australian Pearls for this reason.
The quality of pearls coming from the Blacklip Mother of Pearl or the Pinctada margaritifera is the highest quality out of all the pearl oysters. The oysters produce gray, black or dark lustrous pearls with shells growing for about 200-250 mm.
Generally, lighter pearls – white, rose, peach, cream – work well with fairer skin tones. Darker complexions go well with gold and cream-colored pearls. Olive skin tones and white pearls with silver overtones are a good match. Black or white pearls, on the other hand, suit just about everybody.
AAAAA is the highest quality of pearl known and is expensive and exclusive, while AAA is the highest quality of non-round shape pearls. The lower grade of AAA pearls is the AA+ quality of the pearl which has a surface having a very high luster and at least 75% of the surface will be free from any type of defect.
Akoya cultured pearls are the most familiar type of saltwater cultured pearl to most people in the U.S and other western markets. Many customers think of white or cream colored akoyas as the classic pearl used for jewelry, especially single-strand necklaces. Japan and China both produce akoya cultured pearls.
South Sea pearls are farmed in salt water and grown in a large oyster shell, the Pinctada maxima. They are mainly produced in Australia, Indonesia, the Philippines and French Polynesia.
Do not hang pearls to dry. Take your pearls off when applying cosmetics, hair spray, and perfume, or when showering or swimming. Avoid wearing pearls with rough fabrics like Shetland wool.
