Romans 1:17 means that the Gospel reveals God's righteousness, which is received and lived out entirely by faith, from start to finish, as the righteous person "lives by faith," a concept from Habakkuk 2:4. It signifies that salvation begins with faith in God's provision in Christ and continues as a life of ongoing trust and obedience, a process where God's faithfulness meets human faith.
In other words, God declares human beings to be righteous in His eyes because of their faith. The words "from faith to faith" likely mean that this declaration of people being righteous is by faith from first to last, from start to finish.
The holy things and the pearls represent the things of God, perhaps the gospel itself. The dogs and pigs represent hostile, unworthy people. And so the statement translates into something like this: Do not preach the things of God to hostile, unworthy people.
“The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath” (Mark 2:27). These words of the Savior remind us that the Sabbath day was meant to be a blessing rather than a burden to those who observe it.
The answer: FAITH. The problem of no fruit is the problem of no faith. Jesus says “if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but also if you say to this mountain, 'Be removed and be cast into the sea,' it will be done” (Matt. 21:21).
In the Old Testament, the imagery of people being able to sit in the shade of their own fig tree was a common symbol of peace (1 Kings 4:25; Micah 4:4; Zechariah 3:10). Fruit-bearing fig trees were also a symbol of blessing for God's people.
Between visits to the temple, Jesus enacts the fig-tree “parable,” signaling to his disciples that the end is near and that he wants them to think about what not bearing fruit means, especially as it applies to the Jewish leaders and the temple, which will be “cursed and withered.” Jesus' death and resurrection are ...
Activities that cannot be performed on the Sabbath are basic tasks connected with preparing the showbread of the Temple (sowing, plowing, reaping, binding, threshing, winnowing, selecting, grinding, sifting, kneading, baking), work related to making the coverings in the Tabernacle and the vestments used by the Kohanim ...
God knew we needed it. And He knew we needed dedicated time to stop, reflect, and acknowledge Him as the Creator and sustainer of life. Each week, Sabbath frees us from the constant rat race of a world that expects so much from us. It's a gift that keeps on giving.
Jesus Christ Kept the Sabbath While He Was on Earth
It might be claimed by those who believe that Sunday is now the correct day for “rest” that He only kept the Sabbath because it was His tradition, because He was a Jew, or because He had not been resurrected yet.
Pearls: The OG Symbol of Purity and Wisdom
In Revelation 21:21, the gates of the New Jerusalem are described as "twelve pearls," each gate a single pearl.
So, where was Jesus for the three days in between His death and resurrection? For a time, He was in Hades, preaching to the spirits in prison (whoever they were). Then, He released all of the righteous dead of Sheol/Hades and took them with Him to heaven. But, again, there is controversy on virtually every point.
In this verse, Jesus argues that one must first remove the plank before going on to remove the speck. This verse warns against hypocrisy, seeing the flaw (sin) in another while ignoring the obvious sin in one's own lives.
📖 Romans 1:16-17 — Prayer Lord Jesus, I am not ashamed of Your Gospel. Because I know it is Your power that saves, heals, and restores anyone who believes. Strengthen my faith so I may carry Your light boldly in a world that prefers darkness.
1 Chronicles 29:15 New King James Version (NKJV) For we are aliens and pilgrims before You, As were all our fathers; Our days on earth are as a shadow, And without hope.
The first creation and Sabbath comprised seven days. The new creation and Lord's day were consummated in one day. Sunday is then our day of rest. It is the day that we enter into the rest of God through our resurrected Lord.
There's actually a verse that directly answers this question. It's Colossians 2:16, and Paul specifically says, “Let no one judge you with regards to a Sabbath day or a holy day or festival.” So Paul is being very clear. Sabbath is a no judgment zone.
Observing the Sabbath shows our commitment to honor and worship God and keep our covenants. It will bring us closer to the Lord and to our family. It will give us an eternal perspective and spiritual strength. The Sabbath also allows us to rest from our physical labors and worship the Lord.
🌟 A common question that comes up is whether flushing the toilet is allowed on Shabbat. The answer is yes! 🚽 Flushing a toilet does not involve any electrical components, so it's perfectly fine to do on Shabbat.
Sunday is a time for reflection, silence, cultivation of the mind, and meditation which furthers the growth of the Christian interior life. If cleaning your room does not get in the way of honoring God and resting with Him, then you are free to do so.
We can read the Bible and other books of scripture. And we can talk with God in prayer. These activities can help us feel closer to God, even after the Sabbath has passed.
Transcendence is achieved by keeping alive the relationship with God: the fig represents a fruit of the spirit, which gives security and prosperity to the soul, as well as to the body.
Nevertheless, she persisted and replied, “Yes Lord, but even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master's table.” Bam! she gives it back as good as she got from him. She is not asking Jesus for a whole loaf, just for some leftover crumbs to her sick daughter.
