Try combining three parts powdered sugar with one part boric acid. The sugar will lure the ants in and the boric acid will kill them, Pereira says. Liquid is better—adult ants prefer to drink their food—so water this stuff down a little. “I recommend this to a lot of people,” Pereira says.
Try making peanut butter or honey traps.
Peanut butter and honey traps are simple traps that attract ants quickly. Simply coat a small paper surface, like a piece of cardboard, cardstock, or paper, with a thin layer of honey and place it indoors or outdoors for a few hours.
Ants do not like the strong smell of black pepper. Salt-boil salt and water into a mixture and once cooled, pour into a spray bottle and spray nooks and corners. Oranges-half fresh orange juice and half water sprayed around your home will keep the pests out and keep your home smelling nicely.
Mix Borax with equal parts water and sugar to make a syrup, and leave it in the corners where you've noticed ants. This method will work to kill the entire colony in roughly 24 to 48 hours, as the worker ants will bring the liquid back to the nest.

You need a large amount of water per anthill to get rid of them. Fill a large soup pot with water and boil it. You then carry the pot of boiling water to the ant hill and pour it on the hill. Be very careful as you pour making sure not to burn yourself or the grass surrounding the hill.
In experiments in North, Central and South American, researchers have shown that plant-eating and omnivorous ants living more than 60 miles inland are more interested in salt than sugar, with the preference greater the farther they live from the coast. Carnivorous ants show no such preference.
One home remedy that can be used is human urine, which drives fire ants away and kills them outright if applied directly. This is possibly an infinitely more cost-efficient method of warding fire ants from your property than hiring an exterminator.
