Men and women in Japan are getting married increasingly later than previous generations. In 2020, the average age of women who marry for the first time was 29.4 years, while men were on average 31 years old when they first got married.
Under the Japanese Civil Code the minimum legal age of marriage is 18 years for boys and 16 years for girls. A person who is under 20 years of age cannot get married in Japan without parental approval. From April 1, 2022, the amendment of the Civil Code will be in effect.
From the mid-1970s until 2018 there was a steady and ongoing increase in the median age of men and women at first marriage. This upward trend halted between 2018 and 2020 but continued again in 2021. In 2021 the median age of men was 30.8 years, and women 29.4 years.
Similarly, in Equatorial Guinea and São Tomé and Principe, children can marry at the age of 14 with their parents' consent but have to wait until they are 18 otherwise.
Japanese women reluctant to get married
Owing to the rapid improvement in gender roles in Japan, young women are more likely to get employed than to get married and having children. Since the late-1980s, enrolment of women in four-year-degree colleges has seen an increase.
The divorce rate in Japan is rising because there is a tradeoff between marital stability and gender equality. The drive towards equal status between the sexes narrows the dependency between the spouses, and offsets the costs and benefits of marriage.
Administration. The organizational structure of the two-child policy was housed under different governmental units since its conception in the 1960s.
Large age gaps are especially common in sub-Saharan Africa, including in Gambia (14.5 years between men and their wives or partners), Guinea (13.5) and Mali (12.9).
The average age of first-time marriage was 31.1 years for women and 33.4 years for men, as of 2021. Compared to the average age of first-time marriage in 1991, 30 years ago -- 24.8 for women and 27.9 for men – women and men now wait 6.3 years and 5.5 years, respectively.
Italy. Perhaps it's the irresistible romance of the place that means couples stay married for an average of 18 years - according to the Economist, this is longer than any other country evaluated.
The upward trend in the median age of divorce has stalled since 2018. In 2021 the median age at divorce was 45.9 for males and 43.0 for females, similar to the median ages in 2018 and 2019 (45.9 for males and 43.1 for females for both the years).

The most recent divorce rates stand at 2.2 divorces per 1,000 Australian residents. 56,244 divorces were granted in 2021, with 48,432 involving children. New South Wales had the highest proportion of weddings administered by a minister of religion (25%), rather than a civil celebrant.
The average age of mothers has been rising over time, from 30.0 in 2010 to 30.9 in 2020. Average maternal age has risen for both first-time mothers (from 28.3 years in 2010 to 29.6 in 2020) and those who have given birth previously (from 31.3 years in 2010 to 32.0 in 2020).

According to a 2021 survey by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), Japanese sleep an average of seven hours and 22 minutes. This is the shortest duration among the member countries and almost an hour less than the OECD average of 8 hours and 24 minutes.
Even if a foreigner gives birth in Japan, if they are not married to a Japanese person, their child will not receive Japanese citizenship. If the foreign mother of the child reports the birth to the government office of their country in Japan, then that child can receive the mother's citizenship.
There is no upper or lower limit placed on the number of kids you can have in Japan. It is not a matter regulated by the government. The government is trying to encourage people to have more children, but no one is penalized for not having kids or for having too many.
