Tapbacks give you a quick and easy way to respond to a message, such as a thumbs-up or thumbs-down. Note: To send and receive Tapbacks, you and your recipients must be using macOS 10.12 or later, iOS 10 or later or iPadOS 13 or later.
If you have an Android smartphone, Tapbacks will prevent message reactions from appearing as text versions of themselves that are sent as individual messages. Instead, they'll appear as a emojis next to the message (not as their own separate message) similar to how reactions appear between iMessage users.
A heart or “love” reaction is called a “Tapback” because you can quickly give or receive a response with a single tap of your finger. iPhones also allow you both to “love” the images or gifs that you share. A “love” reaction usually sends a stronger message than a “like” or “thumbs up” reaction.

Tapbacks are exclusive features of iMessage and iPhones. Android users can only use Tapback-like reactions through Google Messages on their devices. Though the reactions on Android do not look exactly like those on an iPhone, they function similarly.
For Mac, do a click and hold to bring up the tapback information. iPhone users can respond with tapbacks in SMS messages (with both Android and iOS users in the thread) but keep in mind Android users will just see a text translation of the tapback and not see it like it appears above.

Go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch, and tap Back Tap. Tap Double Tap or Triple Tap and choose an action. Double or triple tap on the back of your iPhone to trigger the action you set.

If someone you like “hearts” your text, it doesn't mean they're in love with you. If anything, they really like or love your text. This is a step up from a “thumbs up” reaction, as the IG poll revealed that, out of 121 people, 100 prefer getting the heart reaction.
It happens when iPhone and android people are mixed in the group. Or if you are talking txting someone with an iPhone. iPhone users can tap an image and “like it, laugh, love it, and a couple more things” so when they do… you as an Android user will see the “laughed at an image” message.
The thumbs up emoji usually just means “OK.”
The person you're texting is giving you their approval, so take it and leave it! Their ? is most likely a good sign and they are just agreeing with what you're saying. Say you asked a friend if they wanted to meet for lunch. Your friend may say “yes” by sending you a ? .
Reactions are just that, reactions! They are not replies, they are not responses.
Deleting messages changes only your own Messages conversations, not those of your recipients. Tip: Use Undo Send to retract a message you sent accidentally.
The answer is color contrast
The blue Apple picked for the iMessage bubbles provides a better color contrast against the white text on it compared to the green Apple picked for the Android bubbles.
To me hearting a message means you're kind of done with that conversation at that time, but don't know what to say. So you just heart it to acknowledge you've read it, without just leaving the other person on read. If you've already agreed to meet up, plus it was late at night - then don't think much of it.
The person who would receive the message can't see you deleted it for yourself.
That's why we have the double exclamation point. This is like saying, “I DON'T KNOW WHAT I FEEL, BUT I SURE DO FEEL SOMETHING!” or “THAT IS CRAZY!” or “AHHHHHHH!!!!!!” but not “AHHHHHHH!!!!!!” in a good way.
