If you don't love your results from dermal filler injections, take heart knowing the effects are temporary. In many cases, a skilled cosmetic surgeon can make more immediate corrections or improve upon your previous results through one of several therapeutic treatments.
These dermal fillers can be treated with a steroid injection to reverse some of the effects of these fillers. The best and most certain course of treatment is to wait for the body to absorb these fillers. This can require waiting for the treatments to fade over a year or so.
Juvederm, Restylane and other fillers that are formulated with hyaluronic acid can be reversed with an enzyme known as hyaluronidase. Injecting this enzyme into the treated area dissolves the particles of hyaluronic acid.
Allergic reactions
If you experience a reaction, you may experience prolonged swelling, prolonged redness, pain and itchiness. If you think you may be experiencing an allergic reaction to the filler, you should contact your practitioner immediately for advice.
Dermal filler removal involves an injection of the enzyme hyaluronidase, which dissolves hyaluronic acid (the main ingredient in our filler formulations) in a matter of hours. It can be done at any time, allowing you to change your results whenever you choose.
Enter: hyaluronidase. Whether it's the lips, under the eyes, in the cheeks, or any of the other areas where HA filler is placed, injecting hyaluronidase can speed up the degradation process and reduce plumpness and/or lumpiness in a matter of days.
So while the body naturally breaks them down over time, there is a way to speed up the process: Injections of hyaluronidase. Hyaluronidase is what the body produces naturally to break down fillers, so by injecting more, it allows the lips to regain natural shape quicker, usually going down within 3-4 days.
The filler can take several weeks to soften and settle into your skin. This means that patients won't see the ultimate results of their treatment immediately. Although individual results will vary, many people achieve the full effect within two weeks after receiving their injections.
In reality, fillers take up to four weeks to “settle,” according to Healthline. Different types of fillers can settle more quickly, and your lifestyle and similar factors can also affect the amount of time it takes to settle.
Fortunately, dermal fillers work very quickly, and you won't have to wait twelve months to see the full benefits of your injections. That said, these injectable treatments take some time to integrate into your tissues, and it's normal for your dermal filler to take up to two weeks to fully settle into your face.
Although extremely rare, dermal fillers are able to migrate within the skin if consistent and adequate pressure is applied to them. For this reason, we advise patients not to get a facial, massage (on the treated skin), or microdermabrasion for the first two weeks following their filler injections.
Answer: No migration when dermal fillers are injected correctly. When fillers are injected by a board-certified doctor who has extensive training in the treatment, they will not migrate. Hyaluronic acid fillers, which are the most common, contain hyaluronic acid that dissolves over time.
Can your face go back to normal after fillers? Many patients fear that when the filler wears off, they will look worse than before. Though fillers may stretch your skin, it is elastic enough to revert to its original form before your treatment. However, anything that's too much is also not good for you.
Hyaluronic acid fillers, such as Juvéderm products (including VOLUMA and VOLBELLA), Restylane products, and Belotero, can be partially or completely removed with an enzyme called hyaluronidase.
When you have had too much filler, then you may appear to have a bulging forehead, an overly pointy and sharp chin, and overly protruding cheekbones. Furthermore, the filler can stretch and weigh down your skin over time, which is known as filler fatigue.
You might have the option of dissolving your lip fillers early, depending on the type of filler used. You may be able to have all of the filler dissolved or just some of it, if you want to reduce the volume or even out lumpiness.

It is not uncommon to experience a small degree of asymmetry immediately post-treatment due to the potential for swelling and bruising. Juvederm can take up to 4 weeks to integrate, so it is best to wait and review in 2-4 weeks with your Injector at which point you will have a better idea of the final result.
The filler will start to break down and soften immediately, although depending on the location and how much needs to be dissolved, it may take up to two weeks for it to completely dissolve and settle back to natural.
It is not likely that the filler products would move if you wait at least a few days before pressing really hard on the areas and having extractions. The hyaluronic acid fillers settle nicely into the skin, and once any swelling goes down, it would be pretty unusual for anyone to be able to displace them.
DON'T touch the treated area for at least 6-8 hours afterwards. The risk of infection is much higher in the time immediately after your filler treatment, so medical experts recommend not touching the affected area for at least that amount of time.
Because dermal fillers are made of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring skin compound, they are naturally dissolved by your body over a period of 6 – 18 months. This process uses a compound called hyaluronidase.
