The Dingo is Australia's wild dog. It is an ancient breed of domestic dog that was introduced to Australia, probably by Asian seafarers, about 4,000 years ago.

The Australian Shepherd, the cowboy's herding dog of choice, is a medium-sized worker with a keen, penetrating gaze in the eye. In the 1800s, the Basques began migrating to Australia to keep sheep. Their Pyrenean Shepherds crossbred with other working dogs, including Collies and Border Collies, creating the modern version of the Australian Shepherd.
But while certain breeds originated in North America, there's only one wild dog we can claim: the Carolina Dog. The Carolina dog looks an awful lot like the Australian dingo, and is sometimes called the “American Dingo” or “Dixie Dingo” because of its Southern roots.

Australian Shepherds
Their unique appearance is the thing that makes them one of the cutest dog breeds. They often have one or two bright blue, piercing eyes. Their fluffy coat comes in many cute colours but the most distinctive is the blue merle pattern.
On 7 September 1936 only two months after the species was granted protected status, the last known thylacine died from exposure at Beaumaris Zoo in Hobart. It is estimated there were around 5,000 thylacines in Tasmania at the time of European settlement.
Basenji. The Basenji, known for its cat-like attitude, is the oldest dog breed in the world according to genetic evidence, despite conflicting sources that recognize other breeds. This breed still retains traits from its ancestors.

The dingo—Australia's only native canid—is descended from south Asian wolves. The current scientific name is Canis familiaris. Eye-catching, curious and sometimes dangerous, the dingo can be observed across Australia where they play an important role in the natural environment.

The dingo is regarded as a feral dog because it descended from domesticated ancestors. The dingo's relationship with indigenous Australians is one of commensalism, in which two organisms live in close association, but do not depend on each other for survival. They both hunt and sleep together.
The dingo is a primitive type of dog that arrived in Australia around 5000BP. Dingoes helped Aboriginal people to catch small animals, often opportunistically. Aboriginal men also used them to effectively hunt large animals like kangaroo. Domestic dogs introduced by Europeans were used to hunt in different ways.
Among the endemic animal species - species that can only be found in Australia - are the monotremes, which are mammals that lay eggs! The platypus and two species of echidna are the world's only egg-laying mammals, so called monotremes.
Four flat-faced breeds were found to have the shortest life expectancy at age zero - with French Bulldogs only expected to live 4.5 years, followed by English Bulldogs at 7.4 years, Pugs at 7.7 years, and American Bulldogs at 7.8 years.
