In the United States, the "standard workweek" is generally considered to be 40 hours, with employees working five days a week, for eight hours per day. Some employers consider 37.5 hours to be full time, giving 30-minute unpaid lunch breaks each day, while others give an hour and consider 35 hours to be full-time.
A boost in productivity is likely to lead to enhanced creativity, teamwork, and energy. Another fascinating finding of the six-hour study was that employees took half the amount of sick time that their eight-hour colleagues took in a year. This gave them more energy at work and helped them engage with their patients.
With fewer work hours each day, stress is naturally reduced, making it easier for employees to meet deadlines and job expectations. Plus, they can have a bit more of a balance between home and work, which makes for happier employees – and that's never a bad thing.

In 2017, the Southeast Asian state of Cambodia had the longest average working hours worldwide among 66 countries studied. Here, the working time per worker was around 2,456 hours per year, which is just under 47 hours per week.
Employees in Sweden are allowed to work 40 hours per week. Beyond this, they must receive overtime pay. The maximum number of hours per week is 48 averaged over a four-month period.

Mexico has the world's hardest workers, clocking in at 2,127.8 hours per year on average. That means that the average Mexican worker works for 40.9 hours a week, about 5.7% more than the average worker in the United States.
Although the legal recommendation for working hours in Japan is 40 hours per week, historically, many Japanese employers have required their employees to work as much as 80 hours of overtime per month.
The Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America union was the first to successfully demand a five-day work week in 1929. Some countries have adopted a one-day weekend, i.e. either Sunday only (in seven countries), Friday only (in Djibouti and Somalia), or Saturday only (in Nepal and in Israel).
In the end, scientists generally agree that the ideal daily working time is around 6 hours, and more concentrated in the morning.
It's important to recognize that there can be negative health concerns that come with working a 12 hour shift. Consistently working long shifts can contribute to sleep disorders, obesity and chronic fatigue. It can be difficult to get enough sleep or stick to a regular sleep schedule.
