When you have anemia, your skin often appears paler than usual due to a lack of hemoglobin, the protein that gives blood its red color and carries oxygen. The specific color change, known as pallor, can also manifest as a slightly yellowish or washed-out hue.
Pale or yellowish skin tone
Anemia can cause a noticeable shift in skin tone, often presenting as a pale or slightly yellowish hue. This is especially evident in areas like the face, lips, and inner eyelids, where blood vessels are typically closer to the surface.
Prenatal vitamins typically contain iron. Taking a prenatal vitamin that contains iron can help prevent and treat iron deficiency anemia during pregnancy. In some cases, your health care provider might recommend a separate iron supplement. During pregnancy, you need 27 milligrams of iron a day.
Symptoms of iron-deficiency anemia may include: Being pale or having yellow "sallow" skin. Unexplained fatigue or lack of energy. Shortness of breath or chest pain, especially with activity.
Pale or Yellow Skin
The hemoglobin in blood gives it its red color. With lower levels of hemoglobin because of anemia, your blood changes color, which may make your skin appear pale or yellow.
Iron-rich foods
Anemia may increase your risk of a heart attack. Call 911 if you have the following symptoms: Chest pain. Shortness of breath or trouble breathing.
Warning signs of anemia you shouldn't ignore
Weakness. Dizziness. Shortness of breath. Irregular heartbeat.
If iron deficiency anemia is bad, you may need to get iron through a tube in a vein. Rarely, getting donated blood, called a transfusion, can help replace iron and hemoglobin quickly. You can't fix iron deficiency overnight. You may need to take iron supplements for several months or longer to build up your iron.
You may notice pale skin and cold hands and feet. Iron-deficiency anemia can also make you feel dizzy or lightheaded. Occasionally, it can cause chest pain, a fast heartbeat and shortness of breath. Or it can cause you to crave non-food items like ice, dirt or paper.
Anemia may cause your baby to not grow to a healthy weight. Your baby may also arrive early (preterm birth) or have a low birth weight. Anemia is usually found during a routine blood test for hemoglobin or hematocrit levels. Treatment depends on the type of anemia and how bad it is.

Types
Iron deficiency is not just a blood disorder; it actually affects the brain and body directly and often disrupts sleep. Recognizing its relationship to RLS, insomnia, and restlessness at night in kids and the elderly can lead to earlier diagnosis, better treatment, and better nights of sleep.
If you have iron deficiency anemia, it can take three to six months to get your iron levels back to normal. However, different people may react to treatment differently. Some start seeing the results in just a few weeks, while others may not achieve the desired levels for months.
Types of Cancer that Cause Anemia
Iron deficiency presents with fatigue, low mood, anxiety, restlessness, palpitations, and headache. Poor nutritional intake can be the reason of iron deficiency in underprivileged populations. It can lead to behavioral symptoms that can manifest as chronic psychiatric ailments.
Heart and lung problems. Adults with severe anaemia may be at risk of developing complications that affect their heart or lungs. For example, you may develop tachycardia, which is an abnormally fast heartbeat, or heart failure, where the heart fails to pump enough blood around your body at the right pressure.
Many patients present to emergency rooms in need of evaluation for both acute and chronic anaemia, and allogeneic red cell transfusion remains a possible treatment. The use of intravenous iron in emergency departments as part of a fast-track anaemia management programme, elucidated by Quintana-Diaz et al.
As shown in Figure 1, anemic patients defined by the WHO criteria had significantly longer mean and median LOS comparing to non-anemic patients, 8.29 days versus 5 days (p = 0.0093) for the mean, and 5 days versus 2 days (p < 0.001) for the median, respectively.
