Religious affiliation: Depending on which religion you practice, you may interpret purple as a symbol of suffering, royalty, or intuition, among other things. Societal groups: Rainbow colors, for example, are often used as a symbol of inclusion and support for the LGBTQ community.
Black Colors
Black is the hallmark color of sadness. In western cultures, this is one of the sad colors associated with mourning, hence why people wear black to funerals and when they are in mourning. Black also brings up feelings of sadness and fear.
Red: Anger
Rage is represented by one of the most intense colors on the spectrum, associated with intense feelings of anger, anxiety, intensity, agony, strength, and aggression.
Red is pre-eminently the color for flags because it symbolizes struggle, life and revolution.
Purple: Royalty, nobility, spirituality, ceremony, mysterious, transformation, wisdom, enlightenment, cruelty, arrogance, mourning.
The color of purple signifies pain, suffering, grief, and mourning and is used to acknowledge the loss of loved ones. One can see purple used in this fashion in the Catholic Church, especially during the season of Lent when it is used to show sorrow and suffering.
Sadness. “Gray” was the most frequent color indicated for sadness, followed by “indigo” and then “black” (Figure 1).
Gray and blue are often considered depressive colors that may contribute to feelings of low mood.
The blue quadrant is for unpleasant, low energy feelings like disappointment, sadness, discouragement, hopelessness, and loneliness.
Red has a range of symbolic meanings through many different cultures, including life, health, vigor, war, courage, anger, love and religious fervor.

Yellow Is Energetic
It can seem fresh, intense, overwhelming, or even brash and forceful in its energy.
The color of pain—as well as inflammation, irritation, and annoyance—is red. Science is now discovering that every color of light produces an effect. 1 Pink is calming, as is blue; orange stimulates feelings and yellow stimulates our minds.
Black – Western World
Wearing dark colours for mourning has long been a tradition in many parts of the western world, in particular large parts of Europe and North America. The association of the colour black with death and loss is centuries old and is believed to have originated during Roman times.
Yellow was most often associated with a normal mood and grey with an anxious or depressed mood. Different shades of the same color had completely different positive or negative connotations.
Sad Mood Colors. Colors representing emotions that are dark, cold, and muted are usually perceived as sad colors. Grey is seen as the saddest color, as it reminds us of dark clouds and storms. Other sad colors are blue, green, and neutrals like beige.
Most often, warm colors (yellow, red, and orange) are considered to be positive colors, while cool colors (blue, green, and purple) are considered to be negative.
Yellow has diverse meanings across cultures and continents: Europe: In France, yellow signifies yellow signifies jealously, betrayal, weakness, and contradiction. In the 10th century, the French painted the doors of traitors and criminals yellow.
The results of the RGB colour model revealed that guilt was most commonly associated with red, black, green, and violet colours.

Trauma in Relation to Violence
Celie, Sofia, and Squeak are subject to oppression and violence that results from their gender and race, a traumatizing realization in itself. The identity-specific suffering speaks to the connection between violence and trauma throughout Walker's novel.
The color brown is usually perceived as neutral and natural. Because of this, brown is thought to evoke feelings of warmth, security, and earthiness. Brown does a fantastic job of conveying emotions related to the natural world, as well as connoting organic, wholesome feelings in general.
The color purple is traditionally the color of royalty. It has a more unsettling meaning when used during a Day of the Dead celebration. Purple signifies the suffering that comes with the loss of a loved one. It is the color of grief and painful mourning.
