Ever wondered why almost all your clothings zips include the letters “YKK” on them? YKK is a Japanese company, and it's the world's largest manufacturer of zips up until recently it was producing over 90% of all zippers globally!
YKK, it turns out, is a Japanese company. (It stands for Yoshida Kogyo Kabushikikaisha–far too long to print on a zipper.) It's got about half of the world's zipper business. And it has a zipper factory in Macon, Georgia, where they make about 5 million zippers a day.
If you look down at your zipper, there's a hefty chance it bears the initials YKK. Why? The letters stand for Yoshida Kōgyō Kabushikigaisha, a name that translates to "Yoshida Manufacturing Shareholding Company."
YKK, the Japanese zipper behemoth, makes roughly half of all the zippers on earth.
Louis Vuitton Zippers
Modern Louis Vuitton bags, especially with colored zippers, may have a YKK branded zipper. Depending on the style and year of the bag, the finish of each zipper will be semi-matte or shiny.
GUCCI: The hardware on Gucci bags is heavy, well cast and normally engraved with the company logo. Zippers can be made of either metal or plastic, with the company logo or YKK.

His company still exists today as Talon, Inc. And it still produces zippers that Brooks Brothers, Uniqlo, and other popular brands—including some with secret messages in their company logos—use.
The number on the back of the zipper slider is most often tied to the gauge size of the zipper. The gauge size refers to the size of the teeth, as the number gets larger, the teeth get bigger. There are #2, #5, #8 gauge size zippers and go as high as #10 here in our factory.
On quality zippers, the coded information is stamped on the slider back, for example, 5C. The letter designates the teeth type. “C” stands for coil; “V” is for Vislon (molded plastic). Metal teeth don't have a letter.
The second number, preceded by an actual number sign, tells you the width in millimeters of the chain. So a #3 zipper has a 3mm wide chain, and a #5 zipper has a 5mm wide chain. The #3 will be more flexible than the #5, but not as strong.

Look for a YKK Zippers. Burberry bags feature Riri brand YKK zippers. The zipper should be engraved with the Riri logo. The zippers on Burberry bags are always smooth to open and close.
see less Polo apparel does not use YKK zippers. Unfortunately, they have their own, proprietary brand (not good quality). YKK zippers are MUCH better.
Louis Vuitton does not come with any authenticity cards. In order to tell if the bag is real, manufacturer places a unique stamp with a place and date code on the inside of the purse. Nowadays LV bags are not only produced in France, but also in the USA, Italy, Switzerland, Germany and Spain.
One dead giveaway of a fake Marc Jacobs bag is if the bag uses YKK zippers. Sure, YKK is usually known for its use in designer bags, but Marc Jacobs hasn't used these zippers in their bags, at least not yet.
Zipper Size
Zippers are sized with a number designation (e.g., #5, #10). These numbers are based on the approximate width of the closed zipper teeth in millimeters. So, a #5 zipper's teeth measure approximately 5mm across, a #10 zipper's teeth measure approximately 10mm across, and so on.
Insertion Pin: Only found on fully separating or "jacket style" finished zippers, the insertion pin is located at the bottom of the zipper. There is only one insertion pin per zipper, and it's on one side of the tape opposite the starter box.
