Backyard Chickens and Worms 101

Worms in the chicken manure: Worms look like white little hairs that can sometimes be found in a chicken's droppings. It may not be the most fun, but it is important for your girls that you check out their dirty business and see if you can spot any wiggly worms.
The most common symptom of the disease is blood or mucus in chicken droppings. However, reddish chicken droppings aren't always an indicator of coccidiosis. Chicken droppings may also appear brownish red in color due to the normal shedding of cecal cells.

Worm Control
In addition to these valuable wellness benefits, apple cider vinegar for chickens is often used in an effort to prevent worms. Some worms can attack a chicken and cause it to become vulnerable rapidly. Apple Cider Vinegar's low pH destroys germs and worms.

Very occasionally in severe cases, a worm can migrate to the hens' oviduct and a worm will be found inside an egg – a decidedly unsavory experience! Note: As unappealing as it may look, it is not a health threat to humans.
Fenbendazole is the only product that is currently approved for treatment and control of roundworms (Ascaridia spp.) and cecal worms (Heterakis spp.) in chickens and turkeys in the United States.

However, there is ONE time when you should be alarmed. And that's if you definitely see blood in the droppings. Truly bloody droppings, especially if accompanied by a hunched over or fluffed up hen, could signal coccidiosis, a serious parasitic disease of the intestine.
The runny consistency may be due to a hen having a short bout of gastric distress caused by eating something rich or toxic. It's also possible the temperature is very hot, which means the bird is drinking and urinating a lot more than normal.
The best dosage is typically about one milliliter of vinegar per day for a single chicken. Mixing it into their water will dilute the acidic taste while making sure that the chicken receives a safe and effective amount.
