Good dreams in Islam, called Ru'yaa, are true, positive visions from Allah, bringing glad tidings, guidance, or reminders, often feeling real and leaving peace, differing from nightmares (from Satan) or subconscious thoughts. They are a part of prophethood, acting as personal mercy or warning, and should be shared with trusted, wise people, while righteous actions and truthful living increase the chance of receiving them.
Types of dreams in Islam
Whenever one experiences good dreams and good tidings, one must be grateful to Allah Subhanah and redouble his efforts in doing good righteous deeds to make himself more deserving of the honor which their Lord Most Merciful has bestowed upon them.
I saw Abu Qatada who also said, I used to see dreams that would cause me to fall ill until I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: Good dreams are from Allah. So if any one of you sees that which he likes, he should not disclose it to anyone but whom he likes.
In short, true dreams, as made clear in Hadith, have no place in the lives of Muslims at large except that they can be either glad tidings, or warning, for them. They are no binding argument in any matter, neither for their own selves, nor for others.
Shaykha Doctor Tamara Gray remarked on this blessing in her short course at Rabata by saying, “Allah doesn't cut off the unseen from anyone.” Just as Allah provides everyone with food and water, He also gives everyone signs in the form of dreams.
The Prophet said, "If anyone of you sees a dream that he likes, then it is from Allah, and he should thank Allah for it and narrate it to others; but if he sees something else, i.e., a dream that he dislikes, then it is from Satan, and he should seek refuge with Allah from its evil, and he should not mention it to ...
Abu Qatada reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: A good vision is from Allah and a bad dream (hulm) is from the satan; so if one of you sees anything (in a dream which he dislikes, he should spit on his left side thrice and seek refuge with Allah from its evil, and then it will never harm him.
The most accurate of dreams are those that are seen before Fajr can even set in. The most inaccurate dreams are those after the time of Fajr expires.
(a) It was reported that Abu Qutaadah said: “The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: 'Good dreams come from Allaah and bad dreams come from the Shaytaan.
“Dreams are of three types: Glad tidings from Allah, what is on a person's mind, and frightening dreams from Satan. If any of you sees a dream that he likes, let him tell others of it if he wishes, but if he sees something that he dislikes, he should not tell anyone about it, and he should get up and perform prayer.”
Dua For Good & True Dreams
O Allah, I ask You for a righteous dream, truthful and not false, beneficial and not harmful.
The first kind of dream you should never tell anyone in Islam is a nightmare. These are the dreams that leave you terrified, anxious, or shaken. You might dream of being chased, attacked, falling from a height, or losing a loved one. These are not messages from Allah but rather whispers from Shaytan.
said about the reason why the dreams in the last part of the night are most likely to come true:"That is because of the excellence of the time by the spread of mercy and the spread of peace of heart and body attained by sleeping and being in total rest."
Some are from Allah (SWT), and these are considered true or righteous dreams. They often bring peace, insight, or spiritual clarity, and may even reflect a future event or a personal message that aligns with our faith. These dreams can act as a form of guidance or a kind of glad tidings for the believer.
Based on "revelation epistemology" during sleep, the 'template of a higher universe' travels to the unseen world and divine guidance can be provided. People with spiritual health) (owners of the Sound heart) can control the type of their dream, and solve problems by the guidance of God.
This, of course, is a lengthy topic, but generally speaking, when you go to Qur'an and Hadith, the dreams of a layperson are not necessarily seen as signs from God, meaning that Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala wants to communicate something and that if I don't interpret my dream that I am going to miss out on this message that ...
It is not the sleep that is the sin, because the sleeping person is not morally responsible. Rather, the sin would relate to that which directly led one to miss the prayer, such as sleeping too late, or not taking one's sufficient means to wake up.
The Prophet (pbuh) said, “One should not sleep before the night prayer, nor have discussions after it” [SB 574]. Additionally, Muslims are required to wake up for Fajr prayer, which is about one hour before sunrise. The Prophet did not sleep after Fajr prayer.
Abu Sa'eed al-Khudri (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “If any one of you sees a dream that he likes, this is from Allaah, so let him praise Allaah for it and talk about it to others.
Some of the most common types of dreams you might be familiar with like nightmares, daydreams, and lucid dreams.
Narrated Abu Qatada: . The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "A good dream that comes true is from Allah, and a bad dream is from Satan, so if anyone of you sees a bad dream, he should seek refuge with Allah from Satan and should spit on the left, for the bad dream will not harm him."
All you need to do is to call on Allah (swt) with sincerity. You can whisper to Him (swt) or talk out loud; you can cry before Him (swt) or even laugh; you can remember Him (swt) standing, sitting or lying on your side, in solitude or in a crowd. And He (swt) will most definitely be there for you – guaranteed!
