Yes, by the time the judges taste the final plated dishes on MasterChef, the food is often cold or room temperature because of filming delays, but they taste it hot and fresh off-camera first to know the intended flavor and texture. The judges, like Poh Ling Yeow, sample elements as they cook, and then a separate tasting happens later for filming, with the final dish sometimes being a fresh plating of components.
What we see on the show is the judges tasting cold food but they typically walk around the stations tasting stuff during and after the cook is done so they have an idea how the dish is when its fresh.
"What happens is that obviously we cook our food and it was always stored at the right temperature," Sumeet Saigal tells Refinery29 Australia. "So if you have a sauce that needs to be kept warm, they have food warmers behind the scenes where it's kept at the right temperature.
Previous contestants on Ramsay's shows concur — while the food may look appetizing on TV, its temperature leaves something to be desired. “It's cold. It has usually been sitting there for maybe two and half hours at that point,” MasterChef: Legends contestant Kelsey Murphy told FOX 59 in 2021.
Anything else, like leftover fruit and veg, we donate to the local food charities or food banks closest to our location. Other leftover organic waste is composted and we have an extensive waste management system to recycle whatever we can.
Is MasterChef really reality or is it actually scripted? “The challenge is real, the clock is real, and the judges really judge our dishes based on what we manage to put out within the time frame given.” From the moment the challenge starts, it is very real.
For both unused ingredients and uneaten meals, the U.S. "MasterChef" donates to Los Angeles charity Meet Each Need with Dignity or to Feeding America. All organic waste that cannot be reused or donated is composted as part of what BBC One calls an "extensive waste management system."
However, the contestants of MasterChef receive a comfortable payout of $ 600 to $ 650 per week, along with the stay, travel, and meal costs covered.
They keep on filming! While a challenge might only last 60 minutes, an average filming day is much longer. After the judges' taste-test and the verdict is delivered, contenders sometimes head home after spending 12 hours of their day filming.

There's no single "most successful" winner, but top contenders include Andy Allen (a hatted chef & judge), Adam Liaw (TV host, author, columnist), and Julie Goodwin (first winner, cookbook author, TV personality), with Billie McKay being the only two-time winner, but contestants like Reynold Poernomo (KOI Dessert Bar) and Poh Ling Yeow (TV, Jamface cafe) also achieved major success. Success is measured differently (media, restaurants, culinary accolades), making it subjective.
It's official, Channel 10 has announced that Melissa Leong will not be returning to MasterChef Australia for the 2024 season. The beloved judge unfortunately can't return to the show due to many scheduling conflicts. However, no need to worry, she won't be disappearing from your screens completely.
