"You can potentially damage your jewelry by constantly wearing it, but there are no major health risks to wearing jewelry every day, which includes sleeping and showering," she says (unless you're wearing costume jewelry, but we'll get to that later).
To remain safe and sound, clean your earrings once a week especially if you wear the same pair all week. Remove the earrings regularly to clean them. If you don't you'll have a buildup of tissue/debris that can be bad for your health. It will potentially lead to infection and other stuff that may end up very expensive.
While piercings are healing, you do not want to wear anything that could infect what is essentially an open wound that you are forcing to form scar tissue around a piece of metal. Do not share jewelry for an unhealed piercing, and keep it clean!
In general, we would recommend extreme caution when purchasing worn or preloved jewellery, even for healed or stretched piercings. The risk is far too high. It is unhygienic – Comparable to wearing someone else's used underwear or sex toys!

After getting your earlobes pierced, the wait time is generally around 6 to 8 weeks. For cartilage piercings, it can be up to 12 weeks. After the initial wait time, you can change your earrings as often as you like! Make sure to use clean hands and jewellery to avoid irritation or infection.

Turns out it's entirely possible to wear two earrings in one piercing! Pull off this fake-out with an ear climber and an earring that doesn't sit on the ear like a hoop or a dangle. Depending on the size of your piercing, you may only be able to do this with a thinner gauge post or ear wire.

Keep the piercing jewellery in ALL the time, 24/7, night and day, for at least 2 MONTHS (8 weeks). It does take at least this long for the piercing to heal properly.
