Unfortunately, for those wondering how long hemorrhoids last, there is no set timeline for when they clear up. Most of the time, symptoms go away after a few days, even without treatment. However, if symptoms do not improve after a week of home care, you should speak with your doctor.
Pain, itching and tenderness may persist because there is always pressure on rectal veins during bowel movements. Different factors may contribute to healing though. Small internal or external hemorrhoids may heal within a week or so, but enlarged internal hemorrhoids may take at least a couple of months to improve.
Large external hemorrhoids may take longer to heal and cause significant pain and discomfort. If hemorrhoids have not resolved within a few days, it is best to see a doctor for treatment. Risk factors for severe or recurrent hemorrhoids include: not getting enough fiber.
Some Hemorrhoids are a Problem

Doctors also often recommend surgery if someone has very enlarged grade 3 or grade 4 hemorrhoids that are sticking out. As well as conventional surgery to remove hemorrhoids (known as hemorrhoidectomy), there's a special surgical technique known as stapled hemorrhoidopexy or "stapling."
Hemorrhoids can be classified according to how severe they are: Grade 1: Slightly enlarged hemorrhoids that can't be seen from outside the anus. Grade 2: Larger hemorrhoids that sometimes come out of the anus, for example while passing stool or – less commonly – during other physical activities.
Prolapsed hemorrhoids often stretch down until they swell outside the anus. It may shrink back inside the rectum on its own, or you can gently push it back inside.
If you experience any of these hemorrhoid symptoms, avoid excess straining, rubbing, or cleaning around the anus, which can make irritation and itching worse, and can even lead to bleeding. In addition, try to pat the area dry instead of wiping it.
The wide opening of the seat promotes anorectal stress and can make your hemorrhoids far worse. Instead, get up and move around to help stimulate the bowels. Or, better yet, take a long walk around the block.
There is no quick treatment that can treat hemorrhoids within 48 hours, but hemorrhoidectomy is the most effective treatment option available.

When you've had persistent discomfort, pain, or itching for a week, it's time to talk to a doctor. While some symptoms of hemorrhoids resolve on their own, others do not and can be treated by a doctor, so you don't have to live with the daily symptoms.
A first-degree internal hemorrhoid bulges into the anal canal during bowel movements. A second-degree internal hemorrhoid bulges from the anus during bowel movements, then goes back inside by itself. A third-degree hemorrhoid bulges from the anus during bowel movements and must be pushed back in with a finger.
Take fiber supplements.
These draw water into your stool and make it easier to pass, helping to reduce hemorrhoid bleeding and inflammation. A psyllium husk fiber supplement, like Metamucil or a generic version, is a good choice.
Stress doesn't directly cause or worsen pre-existing hemorrhoids. However, stress can upset your stomach, inducing cramps, diarrhea, or constipation. Severe diarrhea or constipation can lead to hemorrhoids. When stressed, your brain sends signals to the stomach, resulting in reactions.
You may get hemorrhoids if you have a family history, often strain during bowel movements, or have long-term (chronic) constipation or diarrhea. Symptoms may include blood in your stool, pain around your anus, or itching. Your healthcare provider may do several tests to be sure you have hemorrhoids.
In simple terms, piles are swollen veins in the bum. They may be inside the anus or stick out externally and can be as small as a raisin (bet you'll never look at one of those the same way again after reading this…) or as big as a grape.

Over-the-counter products are available for hemorrhoids, such as pads infused with witch hazel (Tucks), as well as soothing creams that contain lidocaine, hydrocortisone, or other ingredients like phenylephrine (Preparation H). These substances help shrink the inflamed tissue and provide relief from itching.
Other options are infrared coagulation to heat-treat the hemorrhoids or rubber band ligation, both of which can also be done in the office. With all these non-invasive treatment options, only about 5% of patients being seen for hemorrhoids actually resort to surgery in my hands.
