Please use the Defense Manpower Data Center's (DMDC) Military Verification service to verify if someone is in the military.
Ask them where they're stationed. Look up information on whether we have troops there or not. Ask about the time where they are and look it up online. It usually doesn't match. Look at their email address, it should be a military address ending in mili. If not you have a scammer.
If you need to verify that someone is on active duty, use the Department of Defense's website to create a service record request.

If the person's claims seem suspicious, confirm their military service through SCRACVS or the Defense Manpower Data Center (DMDC) for verified active duty status.

But it does provide some rough guidelines as to how soon may be too soon to make long-term commitments and how long may be too long to stick with a relationship. Each of the three numbers—three, six, and nine—stands for the month that a different common stage of a relationship tends to end.

They often use awkward grammar, unusual spelling (like "British English"), and demand secrecy to bypass critical thinking and isolate you.
Interestingly enough, there's been quite a shift in how military emails are managed recently. In 2022, after enhancing their security measures significantly, Google was granted Level 4 Authorization status which allows them to host government organizations securely through Gmail services tailored for military use.
But having a DD214 form doesn't automatically mean you are a veteran! What is truly bothersome is that people who have served but don't qualify as a veteran can request a DD214.
Military life offers structured routines, defined roles, and a sense of camaraderie that can make civilian life feel unfamiliar and unwelcoming. Some veterans also return to civilian life with physical and mental health complications that make the transition process even more challenging.

Their catalogue can be searched on the Discovery section on their website. Many military records held by The National Archives (and several other institutions) have been digitised and are available to view on Findmypast and Ancestry.
