Whether or not dogs are more attracted to one gender can't be objectively answered because all dogs and people are different. But, dogs generally tend to be more attracted to a specific set of behaviors that are exhibited mostly by adult women. It's not that dogs are exclusively attracted to female adults.
Best case scenario if you growl at your dog — you'll get his attention because you've made a novel noise. Worst case scenario – you'll get bitten in the face. I used another example to illustrate the fact that growling at your dog is not only silly, but dangerous advice.

However, if you put in some clear leadership roles and become the “alpha”; then your dog will respond and present more positive behaviors more often that you can now reinforce. In this case you have a fulfilling relationship without all of the frustration.
Humans and dogs smell different, look different, and behave differently—so when your dog is interacting with you, he's clearly getting the signal that you're a human, not a canine. But again, just because your dog recognizes that you're not a dog doesn't mean he doesn't identify with you or have a strong bond.
Dogs Show Their Respect
Since dogs got used to licking the alpha of the pack or the more dominant pack members to show their respect towards them, licking as a sign of respect and appreciation can be noticed nowadays as well.
Following you very closely can be a sign that they're bored, they want something, they're feeling scared or are just being nosy. It is also part of their natural social behaviour, to watch and follow what you are doing to help maintain a good relationship with you.
Other reasons can include who he initially bonded with, if he likes your bedroom, smells, scents, feeling safe, and personality match. If your pup picks you as the one to sleep with, let's hope he doesn't snore! And, if you notice that he moves around or twitches in his sleep, he may be dreaming.

They Think They're In Charge! Another possible reason your dog sits on your lap is to show that they are the dominant one in the pack. They might not feel as though they are dominant over you, but it can be a way to show dominance over other animals in the household.
