Second, the fact that you believe in Jesus Christ's death on the cross for you is a strong sign that you have the Holy Spirit living within you. The apostle Paul tells the Corinthian church that no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 12:3).
When we believed in the Gospel, and trusted Jesus to save us, that is when we were sealed with the Holy Spirit. If you are a Believer, then the Bible calls you God's temple because God's Spirit dwells in you. As children of God, we literally have the Spirit of God living inside of us.
For some people, the Holy Ghost may cause them to feel overwhelmed with emotion and moved to tears. For others, tears rarely or never come. And that's okay. For them, the Holy Ghost may produce a subtle feeling of gratitude, peace, reverence, or love (see Galatians 5:22–23).
Here the Holy Spirit is seen as a river. A river produces power. We are filled with the Spirit so God can flow through us like a powerful river to impact others. You'll find five instances recorded in Acts of early believers being filled with the Spirit, and the evidence was they spoke in tongues.
The Bible far more regularly speaks of God's Spirit living in the hearts of believers, such as in Romans 5:5 where it states that “God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.”
The Holy Spirit works in us by peeling away our sinful characteristics and replacing them with godly characteristics. His work in us makes us more and more like Jesus. Just as Acts 1:8 mentions, the Holy Spirit empowers Christians to be effective witnesses for Jesus Christ.
Acts 1:8 says, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” This power that comes from the Holy Spirit allows you to stand strong for the things of God.
The person who repeatedly and without repentance rejects the Holy Spirit's testimony to Christ is the one who has blasphemed the Holy Spirit. That sin is the only sin that never will be forgiven.
An inability to feel the Spirit, or a general feeling of apathy or numbness, is often a symptom of poor mental health. God has not forsaken you. Consider for a moment that the Spirit may be communicating with you in a different way than you have experienced before.
God's presence can be felt in different ways. If you've ever been in a group of people who are praying, sometimes it feels like there is a large, comforting, presence in the room, other than that of the people you are with. Sometimes you sense that same presence in church, as I said above.
The dove – When Christ comes up from the water of his baptism, the Holy Spirit, in the form of a dove, comes down upon him and remains with him. Wind – The Spirit is likened to the "wind that blows where it will," and described as "a sound from heaven like the rush of a mighty wind."
Certainly the Spirit of the Lord can bring strong emotional feelings, including tears, but that outward manifestation ought not to be confused with the presence of the Spirit itself” (in Preach My Gospel: A Guide to Missionary Service [2004], 99).
The Bible makes it clear that the Holy Spirit does not indwell the unbeliever, for the Spirit comes only to those who acknowledge Jesus Christ as Lord. Romans 8:9 says, "You are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the spirit of God dwells in you."
We choose to do the right thing in situations and then trust God's Spirit to give us his power, love, faith and wisdom to do it. Since God's Spirit lives inside of us, these things are always available for the asking.
REASON ONE: The Word of God teaches that when we are filled with the Holy Ghost, we speak with other tongues as the Spirit of God gives utterance.
The life led by the Spirit, in contrast with life of the sinful nature, has these markers: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law” (Galatians 5:22-23).
Approach him with thanksgiving and ask for what you need, and above all ask him for the presence, strength, and guidance of the Holy Spirit. Lord, we praise and thank you for always providing and caring for us. Hear our prayer, and send us your Spirit to guide and strengthen us today. Amen.
10:29 – outraging the Spirit of grace, persistent sinning with full knowledge and no desire to repent); Blaspheming the Spirit (Mat. 12:31-32 – ascribing the work of the Holy Spirit to the Devil, rejecting the testimony of the Holy Spirit.
Whatever blasphemies you utter, they too can be forgiven. In Matthew's gospel, Jesus says that even sins committed against him, the Son of Man, can be forgiven. But “whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin” (v. 29).
Mark 3:28–30: "Truly I tell you, people will be forgiven for their sins and whatever blasphemies they utter; but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit can never have forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin—for they had said, "He has an unclean spirit.""
The Spirit within is the first thing a believer experiences. The anointing of the Holy Spirit (the spirit upon) is for service. The spirit within is for living the Christian life. John 14:16-17 explains the work of the Spirit within.
If we are not being “moved” by the Holy Spirit on a daily basis, it is only because we are not listening. The Holy Spirit speaks to us, teaches and guides us. The Holy Spirit is our daily helper, our weekly guide, our morning shield and our nightly armor. He is all powerful, HE IS GOD, living in you.
The seven gifts of the Holy Spirit are wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord. While some Christans accept these as a definitive list of specific attributes, others understand them merely as examples of the Holy Spirit's work through the faithful.
