Deleting messages on Messenger without the recipient knowing is not possible using the standard "Delete for Everyone" feature, as this action sends a notification in the chat that the message has been removed [1].
When deleting a message you received, you only have the option to Delete for you. If you select Delete for you, other people in the chat will still see the messages in their chat screen. If you select Delete for everyone, other people in the chat will no longer be able to see the deleted message.
If you delete a conversation on Messenger, the other person will not be notified that you have done so. Deleting a conversation is a private action that only affects your view of the conversation. The other person's messages and conversation will remain on their Messenger app.
You can delete text messages, attachments, and entire conversations from your iPhone anytime, without affecting what your recipients see.
Deleting the WhatsApp messages means deleting them entirely from the WhatsApp logbook. On the other hand, Clear WhatsApp chats mean you are clearing them from your WhatsApp board only. You can restore the backup messages when you log in to the new device, provided that you have only cleared them and not deleted them.
Delete messages for yourself
You can delete your copy of messages you've sent or received from your phone. This has no impact on your recipients' chats. Your recipients will still see the messages in their chat screen. Open WhatsApp and go to the chat containing the message you wish to delete.
Method 1: Use Apple's official undo send feature
This is the primary and most reliable method for deleting messages from both sides. Apple introduced this feature in iOS 16, and when it works, it completely removes the message from both devices.
If you delete messages on Instagram, Snapchat, or Messenger, police can even recover those messages. Those messages that you thought were gone forever and for more secure applications that use end-to-end encryption, police can use programs such as Celebrate to access deleted documents, videos, messages from your phone.
Unsending a message is a feature that lets you remove a message from both your and the recipient's chat. In contrast, removing a message with the Delete feature only removes the message from your chat and not the recipient's chat. The differences between unsending and deleting a message are as follows.
Open a conversation, such as a direct message, group direct message, or space. Touch and hold the message you want to delete. Tap Delete.
Blocking a contact won't remove them from your contacts list, nor will it remove you from the list on the contact's phone. The existing chat will remain in your chatlist. You can delete the chat if you want to remove it from your chatlist, or archive the chat to hide it from your chatlist.
Deleting cells removes the cells and shifts the surrounding data to fill the space. Clearing cells leaves the cells in place but deletes any data or formatting in them. To delete cells: Select the cells, rows, or columns you want to delete.
If you are using Google Messages, deleting a message you have sent does not delete it for the recipient of the message.
Even when you 'permanently' clear messages, you're simply getting the phone to stop listing it in the deleted items folder. You can't recover such texts on the phone itself, but there are plenty of commercially available software packages you can buy that allow your PC to read data directly from a SIM card.
Deleting messages changes only your own Messages conversations, not those of your recipients. If you use Messages in iCloud, deleting a message or conversation on your Mac deletes it from all your devices where Messages in iCloud is on.
The reality is far less final. Think of your phone like a filing cabinet. Deleting a message doesn't instantly shred the paper, but it just removes the folder tab that lets you find it easily. The message itself still lingers in the “drawer” of your device's storage until new data overwrites it.
When you delete a chat on Facebook Messenger, it will remove that chat and its history from your account and all devices logged in to your account. However, please note that other participant(s) will continue to have a record of the chat and its messages.
