AirPods mic issues during calls and connectivity problems with multiple devices are common. If your AirPods mic isn't working on calls, first ensure they're clean and free of debris blocking the microphone. Check Bluetooth settings to confirm AirPods are selected as the input device.
Make and answer calls
There's a microphone in each AirPod, so you can make phone calls and use Siri. By default, Microphone is set to Automatic, so that either of your AirPods can act as the microphone.
Answer or end a call: Double-tap either of your AirPods. If you want to decline a call, use the controls on your device, or wait until the call goes to voicemail.
Pair AirPods with iPhone or iPad
Go to the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad. Tap Bluetooth, turn on Bluetooth, then do one of the following: AirPods or AirPods Pro: Open the case with your AirPods inside, then hold it next to the device that you want to pair until the setup animation appears.
Use AirPods with iPhone
The status light on your charging case helps you know when it's time to charge your AirPods or charging case and when they're fully charged. Green means fully charged, and amber means that less than one full charge remains.
Control audio with your AirPods Pro 1, AirPods 3, or AirPods 4 (both models)
But if you've been using AirPods Pro 2 for a while, it might be worth passing them on to a friend or relative and upgrading to the Pro 3s. They're about as close as earbuds get to being complete: excellent noise cancellation, strong voice-calling performance and sound quality that rivals the very best.
Verify that your AirPods are selected as the input device in your sound settings. Open your device's settings and head to the Bluetooth settings, select your AirPods, and make sure the microphone is set to either 'Always Left AirPod' or 'Always Right AirPod' if one is working better than the other.
If you receive a call while wearing the earbuds, they will play a sound, and a voice notification will inform you of the incoming call's phone number. To answer the call, double tap the touchpad.
You can control your AirPods with a double tap at the top of the stem. For example, when you get an incoming call, double tap to answer.
