He blames himself. He thinks it was unfortunate but inevitable. He thinks Gatsby deserved it. He wishes he would have been the one to die.
Tom is contemptuous of Gatsby's lack of social grace and highly critical of Daisy's habit of visiting Gatsby's house alone. He is suspicious, but he has not yet discovered Gatsby and Daisy's love. The following Saturday night, Tom and Daisy go to a party at Gatsby's house.

It must be emphasized that Tom was well aware when blaming Gatsby that Mr. Wilson would seek him out and he would kill him, and yet he proceeds with his deception. This aspect makes him directly and morally accountable for Gatsby's death (Hou, 2022).
Nick believed Gatsby would want to hold a large funeral, so he invites many guests. However, all of Gatsby's old friends and party guests either disappeared or declined to come. There were such as Meyer Wolfshiem, Klipspringer, Tom, and even Daisy amongst them.
By the end of the novel, after Daisy's murder of Myrtle as well as Gatsby's death, she and Tom are firmly back together, "conspiring" and "careless" once again, despite the deaths of their lovers.
Daisy is unable to confront the reality of her part in Gatsby's passing due to her feelings of guilt and shame; as a result, she is prevented from attending the funeral of Gatsby. In addition, Daisy is still married to Tom, so she may be concerned about what the aftermath of her attendance at Gatsby's funeral will be.
She would no longer get love or affection from the man, and attending the funeral of a person who was of a lower social class could not be good for her reputation. If Daisy knew about Gatsby's death, she had no reason to attend and many reasons to avoid it.
Nick is left to organise Gatsby's funeral. Daisy and Tom have left town. Wolfshiem refuses to come. Hundreds of people attended Gatsby's parties but no-one comes to his funeral apart from Nick, Gatsby's father, and some servants.
By the end of the novel, Myrtle doesn't seem to have been completely mistaken about Tom's affection for her. After all, Tom says he that he "cried like a baby" (9.145) when he found dog food for the dog he's bought her in Myrtle's apartment. Of course, since it's Tom, his grief is probably self-pitying than selfless.
In Chapter 9, the mystery of how George found Gatsby is solved. Tom confesses that George first came to Tom's house that night. There, Tom told him that the yellow car was Gatsby's and insinuated that Gatsby was the one who killed Myrtle and the one who was sleeping with her (9.143).
Daisy's behavior during and after the fatal car crash with Myrtle Wilson reinforces the carelessness and selfishness that the novel suggests defines the period. Possibly drunk from the day in the city, Daisy carelessly strikes Myrtle with Gatsby's car.
Gatsby's death is symbolic of the death of the American dream, bringing the novel full-circle. Even though George Wilson murdered him, Gatsby still carries some of the blame for his death. He took responsibility for Myrtle Wilson's death in order to protect Daisy.
Tom is panicking because for once in his life he feels like he is no longer in control of the women in his life. His wife is having an affair with another man, and his mistress's husband is going to move away with her to prevent her from continuing her affair with him.
People who are similar to each other tend to be jealous of each other. The most obvious similarity between Tom and Gatsby is that they're both rich. This can lead to theories of Tom being jealous of Gatsby knowing Gatsby's wealth can be a threat to him.
Gatsby becomes embarrassed ans walks away because he knows that Tom is Daisy's husband.
Gatsby's funeral is ironic because only three people attend, while enormous crowds attended his parties. Despite being a popular figure in the social scene, once Gatsby passes, neither Daisy, his business partner Henry Wolfsheim, nor any of his partygoers seem to remember him or care.
Henry C. Gatz, Gatsby's father, comes to the mansion three days after his son's death, aged and wearing plain clothes. He's grief-stricken and asks Nick what his relationship was with Gatsby. Nick says they were close friends.
Nick took care of Gatsby's funeral because he was his only close friend and the only person who really cared about him. Nobody else showed any interest in Gatsby after his death.
Owl Eyes is one of the few characters that suspects that Gatsby is not who he really says he is. This is evidenced by his obsession with the realness of Gatsby's library books. Owl Eyes is one of a few people who show up to Gatsby's funeral and express sadness at his untimely end.
The only people to attend the funeral are Nick, Owl Eyes, a few servants, and Gatsby's father, Henry C. Gatz, who has come all the way from Minnesota.
When Cody died in 1912, he left Gatsby $25,000 in his will (equivalent to $758,103 in 2022), but Cody's mistress Ella Kaye cheated Gatsby out of the inheritance.
Gatsby reveals details of his and Daisy's long ago courtship. He was enthralled by her wealth, her big house, and the idea of men loving her. To be with Daisy, he pretended to be of the same social standing as her. One night, they slept together, and he felt like they were married.
Although Daisy may have loved Gatsby once, she does not love him more than the wealth, status, and freedom that she has with Tom.
Meyer Wolfsheim, who was very close to Gatsby, uses this as an excuse not to attend Gatsby's funeral. He says that, now that he's old, he can't "get mixed up in all that"—by which he means he doesn't want to be affiliated with Gatsby's death because Gatsby's illegal dealings could unveil his own.
