Yet, a roach may choose to enter a person's bed and crawl on them if they are looking for food. You see, for the most part, roaches can always find something to eat in our homes since they have such a broad diet. But, if there truly is nothing for them to eat, they may climb into your bed in search of a snack.
Because of this, cockroaches will not bite active humans, but sleeping humans is another matter. Cockroaches emerge from their indoor hiding spots at night to seek out food, and while doing so, they sometimes crawl over sleeping humans.
Droppings
Cockroach droppings are a sure sign that you have an infestation. These pests will eat pretty much anything and leave behind something that resembles coffee grounds or pepper. These droppings are less than 1mm wide and can be difficult to spot if you don't know what you're looking for.
Cockroaches are attracted to food and water sources. Dirty dishes, crumbs, food spills, leftovers, garbage, and pet food will all draw cockroaches in. Roaches are excellent at scuttling into and over tiny spaces, especially holes in pipes, cracks and crevices in your home, and tears in screens.

These essential oils tend to naturally repel roaches. Mix 8 drops of cypress oil, 10 drops of peppermint oil, and 1 cup (240 ml) of water in a spray bottle and then spray this mixture wherever you've seen roaches.
Do Cockroaches Like Light? In general, cockroaches are active during the night, and when it is daytime, they will spend most of their time sleeping. These insects will run away, except for the Asian Cockroach, which is usually attracted to light when exposed to the light.

It's a fact that cockroaches are afraid of humans and other mammals or animals that are bigger than them. They see us as predators and that fear triggers their instinct to scatter away. However, they dislike strong and distinctive scents such as citrus, peppermint, lavender and vinegar.

If you consume this poison second-hand through a cockroach, you could be in danger. The more so if you consume the entire pest by accident. Keep an eye out for poisoning symptoms such as dizziness, confusion, lack of concentration, and stomach pain.

Cockroach lifespan
Each species of cockroach has their own estimated lifespan but on average, cockroaches live for about one year. Factors such as food supply, habitat and climate affect lifespan. American cockroaches can live for about one year while German cockroaches are estimated to live for about 100 days.
When they hatch, baby roaches start as pale, white-grey in color and, over the next few hours, they develop a reddish-brown hue. You can identify baby American cockroaches by their reddish-brown coloring on their shells and the halo-shaped marking behind their heads.
