A girl's period, also known as menstruation, begins about 2 to 2½ years after her first signs of puberty. Breast development is usually the first sign of puberty, but sometimes pubic hair comes first. Girls usually get their first periods between the ages of 8 and 15.
Growing pubic hair: Just after your breasts start to form, you'll probably start growing pubic hair. It will be soft and thin at first, but it'll get coarser over time. Your period usually arrives around one to two years after.
Here is the sequence and time frame of events for an average girl. The girl will also begin her growth spurt about this time. She will notice pubic hair about 6 months later. About 6 months after that (a total of one year after budding) she will be in her peak growth spurt, growing faster that she ever has.

Brown discharge is one of the signs that your period is on its way. The brown color means that there is slow bleeding from your uterus, unlike when it's bright red and flowing faster. Girls and women often have brown discharge just before, during, or right after their period. Brown blood is often a smudge or spotting.
If a girl starts menstruation at a young age, it's usually because the hormones in her body responsible for puberty are being produced earlier.
According to one study, around 26 % of men experience these regular “man periods.” Men have hormonal cycles. While they may not be the same type of “monthly” cycles that women have, men have hormonal cycles. Typically, testosterone levels are higher in the morning and lower at night.
Most girls get their first period when they're around 12. But getting it any time between age 10 and 15 is OK.
Your period should really start first thing in the morning, without any brown stains leading up to the appearance of that cranberry red. And it should last 4-7 days, not longer or shorter.
