The worms that have been reported to have been found in tap water are midge larvae, flatworms, roundworms (otherwise known as nematodes), and rotifers. The typical size of parasitic worms or helmiths, such as flukes, tapeworms, hookworms, ascris, pinworms, trichina worms, and filaria worms is 30-50 microns in diameter.

Aquatic worms (Limnodrilus hoffmeisteri) are closely related to the earthworm and are found in shallow freshwater ponds, marshes, lakes and streams. These worms measure about 2 inches long and have reddish-colored, segmented bodies and pointed ends.

Meanwhile Planaria, commonly found in the aquariums, are from the phylum Platyheminthes. Planaria are a type of flatworm that are mostly scavengers whose bodies are not in segments.

Midges are often seen in large mating swarms over water. They lay their eggs in the water and in about ten days these eggs hatch to form larvae, often called red worms–or “bloodworms”–because of the presence of hemoglobin in the blood.
You can get giardiasis if you swallow Giardia germs. Giardia spreads easily and can spread from person to person or through contaminated water, food, surfaces, or objects. The most common way people get sick is by swallowing contaminated drinking water or recreational water (for example, lakes, rivers, or pools).
Many but not all available home water filters remove Cryptosporidium. Some filter designs are more suitable for removal of Cryptosporidium than others. Filters that have the words “reverse osmosis” on the label protect against Cryptosporidium. Some other types of filters that function by micro-straining also work.
Boiling is the surest method to kill disease-causing germs, including viruses, bacteria, and parasites.
Cleaning the bathroom with carbolic acid or detergent regularly has been shown to help eradicate worm growth in the bathroom. If using a chemical cleaning fluid, just pour it into between the open tile floors. You can also pour the liquid directly over the worm's body when you find it.
Keep any soil or plants at least 20 feet away from the swimming pool. Worms normally live in dirt, and hard rain can draw them out of the ground. As they try to get out of the rain, they could end up in the pool accidentally if the dirt and plants are too close to the pool water.
Aquatic earthworms closely resemble terrestrial earthworms. They have long, moderately muscular, cylindrical bodies composed of ring-like segments. Most aquatic earthworms range in length from 1-30mm long, although some may be as long as 150mm. The anterior (front) end of the worm has no suckers or eyespots.

When these long, brown worms show up in a toilet, it could mean your sewer pipe is cracked. Having a cracked pipe easily allows worms or foreign bodies into your home. Earthworms soak up oxygen from their skin, so if the water has oxygen in it, the earthworm will continue to stay alive.
Now if you find earthworms in your toilet - that COULD be a sign of a problem with your sewer pipe. If there is a crack or more than one somewhere along your sewer pipe, then earthworms could get in there and eventually make their way up to your toilet.

Eggs can live for 2 to 3 weeks outside the body. They can be found in house dust, on toilet seats, bed linens and toys and in play areas in or outside the home. Although pinworms only grow in humans, the eggs can be carried in a pet's fur.
Schistosomiasis is a disease caused by a parasitic worm that lives in certain types of freshwater snails. The parasite leaves the snail and enters the water where it can enter a person's body through the skin when a person wades or swims in contaminated freshwater.
